Your design… Your experience

I loved their mission to help you plan the best trip for YOU. The travel advisors want to understand each individual or group’s interests, and help you arrange your trip based on those interests – from adventure, nature, art, history, off the beaten path, to a combination of these. Trips can be specialized for families (Disney vacations!) with your ideas and budget in mind.

The Travel Design Lounge focuses on meeting the needs of each person that walks in the door. For some visitors, that may mean working with an advisor who can expertly guide them and help them plan their trip. For others, it may be providing the source of inspiration and guidance, along with the technology to help them plan and book on their own.

You are invited to stop in and experience the Travel Design Lounge, and find out where your inspiration will lead you!

Omaha Family Dining Week – Take the Pledge!

October 20, 2014

LWOK 4C-500

Disclosure: I partnered with Live Well Omaha Kids for this post. Any opinions are 100% my own.

When I was younger, I remember sitting around the dinner table, and sharing in our family meal. We would share stories about our day, and enjoy my Mom’s delicious home-cooked meals. Even if one of us had soccer practice, there was still a special meal time for those who were at home.

Today, many families try to do the same for their own families, but with a combination of many factors, it becomes a little bit of a challenge.

To help families, this week has been designated as Family Dining Week, and families are invited to take the pledge to cook and eat at home together more as a family!

What are the benefits of Family Dining?

1. Healthier meals – When we eat at home, we try to make an effort to have a balanced meal with a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, in addition to a healthier main course.

2. Sharing stories – Our family loves to share ‘Rose & Thorn’. We each take a turn going around the table sharing what our thorn of the day was (a challenging or difficult part of our day) and our Rose (a great part of the day). We also share what we are thankful for. This offers a great opportunity to listen to one another and learn more about each other’s day.

3. Cooking can be fun! Try cooking together as a family, and involve your kids in helping with meal planning for the week. They can help prepare the meal, set the table and clean up afterwards. If the kids are involved in helping select the dinner and preparing it, they are more likely to eat what is prepared.

4. Save money. Eating out can get expensive, and the savings of eating at home can really add up. (Tip: Follow Mom Saves Money for her weekly local coupon matchups and grocery deals to even save more at the grocery store.)

Take the Pledge

Families are encouraged to take the “Family Dining Pledge.” The pledge asks families to list how many days they currently eat at home and then how many they plan to eat at home after learning about the benefits of family dining. After taking the pledge, families will receive support including recipes and expert advice to make this healthy habit easy and fun.

Plus, families who take the pledge during Omaha Family Dining Week will be entered to win prizes that encourage healthy eating and being active together – like a family membership to the YMCA, a 4-pack of tickets to the Zoo, Hy-Vee gift cards and more!

Live Well Omaha Kids will offer tips and recipes all week on its blog. Also, find Live Well Omaha Kids on Facebook and Twitter for useful Family Dining tips, such as:

1. No screens allowed at the dinner table

2. Make dinnertime a positive atmosphere

3. Make it easy and fun

4. Offer healthy choices

5. Involve the whole family in the meal preparation, cooking or clean up

Are you ready to take the pledge?

Celebrating with Omaha Bloggers with Sushi and Cupcakes!

August 24, 2014

A close up of a piece of a cupcake on a table.

This past weekend, we celebrated the first birthday of the Omaha Bloggers group! This is an amazing group of talented people who live in and around Omaha. It has been so fun to connect with one another, and it was time to celebrate!

A tray of food on a table in a restaurant.

Hiro 88 in the Old Market graciously hosted our first birthday celebration. We were first treated to a plentiful amount of Crab Rangoon, Pot Stickers, and Edamame, as our appetizers. All three were a big hit with the entire group!

These Crab Rangoon were so delicious! Very light and flaky, with the perfect blend of cream cheese and crab. Definitely my favorite of the day!

Hiro 88 then brought out samples of sushi full of all different varieties. Some in our group were very impressive in their use of the chopsticks!

Then on to dessert, and what better way to celebrate than with cupcakes! CupCake! OMAHA provided us with amazing cupcakes – oreos, salted nut roll, chocolate chip, ohh, I wanted to try them all! In each one was a little surprise of extra frosting.

They are also located in the Old Market and provide a delicious treat any time of day. Follow CupCake! Omaha on Facebook to keep updated on all of their delicious flavors!

NEST 529 College Savings Plans: Benefits of Saving Early

April 21, 2014

NEST_VS2_static_300x250

This article is brought to you by NEST 529, Nebraska’s 529 College Savings Plans. We are happy participants in the program ourselves!

Start early: saving for college has advantages today AND tomorrow.

With everything on your plate as a parent, it’s easy to focus on the things happening now without giving much thought to the things happening down the road: like saving for college. We all want to do everything we can to ensure the best possible future for our children and saving for college is one big way to help make their future great.

It’s no secret that a college education plays an important role in a child’s future success, but the vast majority of parents don’t have a plan to save for higher education. One simple way to start the process is by investing in a 529 college savings account when your child is young.

The sooner you start saving, the more time your money has to grow thanks to the power of compounding interest. Let’s say you put away $100 a month for college costs starting when your child is born. With a 6% annual rate of return, the difference between starting when they’re a newborn and starting when they’re 5-years-old is $15,277.1

Nebraska’s nationally-recognized 529 college savings plan—NEST 529—has several features that make it easy for parents to begin saving. Earnings grow tax-free and no taxes are taken out when money needs to be withdrawn to pay for college or other related expenses. Each year, you can also deduct contributions to a NEST account from your Nebraska state income taxes.

Sign up in less than 10 minutes and choose from several investment options tailored to your needs. NEST also offers the flexibility to easily manage your account online and set up automatic contributions from your bank account. You can even enjoy the perk of earning extra savings from your everyday purchases.

Drawings and Scholarships

Throughout the year, NEST offers several drawings and scholarships for opportunities to add more money to your 529 account. Starting April 22, NEST is offering more than $10,000 in scholarships for babies 0-18 months. To enter, visit NEST529Direct.com/EveryAdvantage for more information. Drawings will be held every two weeks. 2

Click here to learn more about NEST and 529 college savings plans.

1 Calculation assumes an annual investment return of 6% and monthly contribution of $100 per month on the first day of each month. This hypothetical is for illustrative purposes only. It does not reflect an actual investment in any particular college savings plan or in the NEST Direct Plan or any taxes payable upon withdrawal.

2 The NEST Every Advantage scholarship is open to babies 0-18 months. Visit NEST529Direct.com/EveryAdvantage for official rules.
