Highlights of the weekend: Local Events
- Kickoff the Summer Reading Program with a special party! The Summer Reading Program runs June 1st-July 31st, and will kick off on June 2nd with parties at all 12 locations (except W. Dale Clark Main Library will party on June 1st).
- Held the first Friday of each month, 6-9pm, First Friday is a free event celebrating local creativity in Omaha’s most historic neighborhood. They are also offering free parking and free rides on Ollie the Trolley, 6-9pm. Nebraska at the Market, 1215 Leavenworth, is generously offering their 60 parking spaces for free. Park there and start your walking tour or hop aboard the trolley to circulate the neighborhood.
- Sample a variety of food from area restaurants, enjoy free concerts, Flowpulse Fire Spinning Team, entertainment and amusement rides for kids, and a Big Ferris Wheel. The KidsZone Stage features performances with comedy, balloons, magic, and exotic animals – see the exciting KidsZone schedule here!
- One of my favorite activities! View amazing sand sculptures built by local and community groups. Enjoy an interactive kids zone, live entertainment, and watch master sand sculptors carve a 40-ton sculpture! No admission charged. Donations appreciated to support the mission of the Nebraska Children’s Home Society.
- AAA is hosting several free bike helmet fittings from 10-2pm at various AAA offices over the next two months. Free helmets will also be available to children ages 5-12, while supplies last.
