Books by the Busload is coming to Omaha, Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, from 10am – 4pm! The public is invited to browse the books in a library-like setting on the Metro buses and take home titles for FREE – including fiction and nonfiction books on cooking, gardening, technical skills and more. Books are available for all ages and reading levels.
This year, buses will be at 3 Omaha locations:
- Westroads Mall – 10000 California Street, parking lot in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods
- Salvation Army Kroc Center – 2825 Y Street, front parking lot
- Heartland Workforce Solutions – 5752 Ames Avenue
Metropolitan Community College, Cargo Zone LLC and Metro transit are driving forward literacy with 20,000 free, new books. Since 2011, Books by the Busload has given away books via Metro bus to area families. By promoting the event, MCC hopes to encourage literacy among adults and families.
The book donation stems from the work of MCC Foundation Board Member Terry McMullen, who serves as managing director of Mainfreight USA/Omaha and president of Cargo Zone LLC. For years, McMullen has acquired extra prints of books to distribute among community organizations. MCC’s Service-Learning department and student volunteers organize the thousands of books and distribute them among agencies and community members.
What a wonderful opportunity for families!
