Highlights of Upcoming Local Events
College World Series Free Fan Events and Omaha Resources – 6/14-6/26
- NCAA men’s baseball championship tournament also includes a free fan festival with games and entertainment
Olympic Swim Trials Free Fan Events and Omaha Resources – 6/21-7/2
- The nation’s top swimmers compete to represent the US at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. There will also be Free Fan Events, including Aqua Zone and the Mutual of Omaha Light Show.
Nebraska Shakespeare on the Green – 6/21-7/8
- Outdoor, professional productions of Shakespeare’s plays at Elmwood Park, beginning at 8pm. Free Admission.

- The Comedy of Errors – June 28-30, July 1, 5, 7
- The Rainbow’s Opening is this weekend, June 22nd and June 23rd, and will include a public tour, panel discussion, and opening reception. The rainbow will then be displayed twice daily this summer, depending on weather conditions.
- June 22nd – Charm School Dropouts / The Smurfs: LaVista Summer Concerts and Movies, LaVista Public Library, 9110 Giles Road. All concerts and movies this summer will begin at 7 pm.
- June 22 – The Karate Kid: Cox Music and Movies at Holland Center East Lawn. Enjoy live music from some of the area’s hottest bands followed by a classic movie, all in the Holland Center Courtyard. Venue opens at 7:30pm, music starts at 7:45pm, and movies begin at dusk.
- June 22 – The Adventures of Tin Tin: FREE Starlight Movie Series at Sumtur Amphitheater. Gates open at 7:30 with cartoons starting as soon as the sun sets. The feature movie starts at twilight.
- June 22 – The Adventures of Tin Tin: Music and Movies in Bayliss Park, Council Bluffs. Movies will be shown every Friday night starting after dusk (around 9 pm) from June 1st through August 3rd. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, snacks and enjoy the movie with family & friends! In case of inclement weather, movies will be shown the following Saturday evening.
- June 25 – Seabiscuit: Midtown Crossing Monday Night at the Movies. Weekly inspirational sports-themed movies will be shown in Turner Park. The movies are free and open to the public and sponsored by Marcus Midtown Cinema. Grab your blanket, enjoy some popcorn, sit back and relax as we laugh, cry and become inspired all summer long! Movie starts at dark.
- Plus many more Free Movies and Free Summer Concerts!
- Although not free (tickets are $5/person), this “monumental inflatable structure, with a dazzling maze of tunnels and soaring domes that immerses visitors in the beauty of light and color” is not to be missed. Open Noon-6pm on weekdays, and 11am-6pm on the weekend.
- UPDATE: Due to the extreme heat, they have changed the times for viewing: “The public will be able to experience the Architects of Air Wed. June 27 and Thurs. June 28 from 9 am to 2 pm. On Fri. June 29 and Sat. June 30, the public can view the exhibit from 11 am to 6 pm.”
- In conjunction with Architects of Air, Midtown crossing will be transformed into a family fun zone! Join us for face painters, balloon artists and family-focused fitness activities. Free Showing of Despicable Me at 4:15pm (arrive early, seating limited.)
- Annual free fireworks show and concert headlined by Huey Lewis and The News from 6-10:30pm at Memorial Park.
Lightning Bug Party at Hummel Park Nature Center – 6/30
- Come out to enjoy the Free Lightning Bug Party at Hummel Nature Center on June 30th, from 6pm to dark! Enjoy a fun night of making a lightning bug craft, enjoying s’mores, and catching lightning bugs! Be sure to bring a jar to catch your favorite critter in! Reservations preferred to the Nature Center at 402-444-4760.

Bass Pro Shop Family Summer Camp – 6/9-7/15
- Every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from June 9 – July 15th, 1-5pm. Free Activities including Casting Targets, Shooting Range, and Shooting Arcade. Free Photo (Saturdays and Sundays only). Free S’mores Cookout (Saturdays only 6-7pm, while supplies last). Schedule and activities may vary by location.
Lowe’s Free Kids Build and Grow clinics – 6/23-6/24
- Lowe’s Kids Clinics are offered every other Saturday at 10am and Sunday at 2pm. Bring the kids to any Lowe’s store to build fun projects. This is recommended for children in grades 1st-5th. Registration opens a few weeks before each clinic’s date.
