- Celebrate the 141st anniversary of the tree planter’s holiday where it all began – in Nebraska City, Nebraska. The entire community will mark the internationally-celebrated holiday from April 26-28, 2013, with the theme of “Dig It, Plant It, Grow It.” Community events include a 5k/10k run/walk, parade, chili cook-off, home and garden show, and more.
Hershey’s Track & Field Games – April 27, 9am, Westside Middle School
- Ages 9-14 come out this Saturday at 9 a.m. to Westside Middle School, 8601 Arbor St., and compete int the Hershey’s Track & Field Games! All participants can register the day of. A parent or guardian must sign the registration form.
SCHEELS Strider Adventure Zone Day – April 27, 10am-2pm, FREE
- Ages 1-5. SCHEELS will have a variety of Strider bikes set-up on a secure and safe course in their parking lot for kids to test ride and get a real feel for how the bikes work around turns and over hills. Come join the FUN!
OPD Salute to Safety Expo – April 27, 10am-3pm, Westroads Mall, FREE
- Bring the whole family out for a free day of learning and fun-filled activities! Over 75 tables will be on display staffed with safety experts to provide families with safety information. The event will also offer free child ID kits, free bike helmets (ages 5-12 accompanied by an adult), free t-shirts for kids to design, a Drug Administration Enforcement prescription drug take-back station (bring in your unused or unneeded medications), face painting, clowns, balloons, and many more hands-on activities. The north parking lot will also host a variety of emergency vehicles.
Birdtastic at Hummel Nature Center – April 27, 10:30am-12pm, FREE
- Build a birdhouse! Learn to identify birds, go birding while exploring the trails, and Celebrate Urban Birds with your family! Free!
Teen Learn to Save a Life Day – April 28, 9am-3:30pm, 1-hour classes, FREE
- The UNMC Youth Learning Center will hold a free class on CPR training open to ages 11 -18. The Teen Learn to Save a Life Day will be one hour in length and will teach skills on how to recognize and respond to life threatening emergencies. Registration is required. Organizers ask registrants to bring non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Omaha Food Bank.
YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day & Open Streets Omaha’s Play Streets – April 28, 11am–4pm, Aksarben Village, FREE
- The kickoff event to four Play Streets this Summer. The emphasis is on physical activity, healthy local foods and wellness information. It is a day of simple and FREE fun! Sunday’s event will be held in conjunction with the YMCA Healthy Kids Day, from 11am – 2pm in Stinson Park.
