One of the busiest days in Omaha is today! Welcome to the second day of the College World Series Finals and the beginning of the Olympic Swim Trials! This past weekend, we enjoyed some of the fun and free activities surrounding the Olympic Swim Trials.
Mutual of Omaha Light Show
The Mutual of Omaha Light Show is an amazing 6-minute light show on the side of the Mutual of Omaha building. They offer free parking at 35th and Dodge, and for the best view, I highly recommend getting out of your car! There is nice music playing in the background, and the ambience with the crowd next to the giant swimmer is like watching an awesome fireworks show! It will be shown 9:30pm-11:30pm nightly through 7/2.
USA Swimming Aqua Zone 2012
On Sunday, we visited during the Swim Trials Open House and watched the athletes training in the pool. It is amazing to see the CenturyLink Center transformed with a pool where we are used to seeing basketball games and concerts!
Then we ventured into the Aqua Zone, the free family event open today through July 2, 11am-7pm. We loved the goggle toss (which was more challenging than it looked!), bounce house bungee run, autographs with Rowdy Gaines, Bruce the Mechanical Shark (although none of us were brave enough to try it), the double-decker bus and London telephone booth, writing inspiring messages to the athletes, and all of the interactive games and activities.
In addition to fun for the whole family, the Aqua Zone offers a deeper understanding and appreciation of the awesome sport of swimming and the amazing abilities of all of the athletes. I went to the Swim Trials the last time they were in Omaha, and the exciting atmosphere watching world records being broken and dreams achieved is something I will not soon forget. I highly recommend attending at least one session of the Swim Trials Events, but if you are not able to, be sure to visit to Aqua Zone and be a part of this amazing experience!
