Our Top Ten Things We Love About Fall

October 16, 2012

Fall is such a beautiful season and it is a favorite for many of us!  It fills our senses with so much to take in and enjoy.  I truly loved reading all of your comments for the earlier Vala’s giveaway that I read them twice!  You were asked, “In addition to going to Pumpkin Patches, what do you love about Fall?”  I thought it would be fun to put it all together and call it:

Our Top Ten Things We Love About Fall

1. Sights

Changing colors of leaves, beauty of nature, seeing the leaves fall, beautiful fall colors

2. Sounds

Leaves crunching under your feet, crackle of campfire

3. Touch

Cool, crisp weather, cozy hooded sweatshirts, snuggly sweaters, fun jackets, favorite jeans

4. Smell

Campfires, kettlecorn cooking, foods baking, roasted pumpkin seeds

5. Taste

Hot chocolate, chili and soup, baking, kettlecorn, candy corn (and peanuts!), hotdogs and marshmallows cooked over bonfires, s’mores, apple picking and eating/making apple pies, apple crisp, caramel apples, and apple cider

6. Football

Football, especially Husker football!

7. Everything pumpkin

Decorating and carving pumpkins, roasting pumpkin seeds, pumpkin pie, pumpkin pie flavored Blizzards and Shakes, pumpkin spiced coffees and creamers, pumpkin everything!

8. Pumpkin Patches

Going to Pumpkin Patches and Fall Festivals and enjoying all they have to offer – hayrack rides, picking pumpkins and apples, duck races, corn pits, being outside, fun activities, yummy food

9. Halloween

Halloween is one of those holidays that we can celebrate all month long!  We love decorating, haunted houses, and finding the perfect costume

10. Family

Enjoying Fall and everything it has to offer with your family was by far the most mentioned!  We enjoy snuggling up with kids for a family movie night, all the things availiable for families to do together, hunting, fishing, yardwork, celebrating traditions and creating new ones, just hanging out with the family, enjoying holiday feeling, indoor activities, family dinners, craft fairs, and building leaf piles and jumping in them!  Fall brings a feeling and sense of family.

What do you love most about Fall?  Anything more you would add?

Bloom Where You’re Planted Pumpkin Patch Review and Giveaway (Ended)!

September 24, 2012

Are you looking for a pumpkin patch where you can experience many kid-friendly activities, fresh air, and beautiful scenery, in a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere?  Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm and Pumpkin Patch may be the perfect place for you!

Be sure to also see:

  • Omaha Area Pumpkin Patches and Fall Festivals

Highlights

We visited last weekend with four kids, ages 2-7, and they all loved the variety of activities.  It was a beautiful Fall day, and perfect weather to be outside!  In addition to those pictured below, their favorites included the scenic Hayride to the pumpkin patch, Farm Animals, Play Areas, Barrel Swing, and Hay Climb.  I loved the Family-Sized Tire Swing!  Kids could also paint their pumpkins after purchasing.

Bloom Where You’re Planted Farm prides itself on offering many activities in a relaxing setting.  From their website:

“We offer a big dose of fall fun with an emphasis on the agricultural side of autumn. We’re not a theme park–we offer lots of fresh air, wide open spaces, recreation and relaxation, all for the best price around and in a beautiful seasonal setting.”

I was impressed with how clean and well-kept it is.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the Schoolhouse Café, an historic one-room schoolhouse.  They also have a Pumpkin Barn and Gift Shop,  and a nice room above the barn for Birthday Parties, Field Trips, and Group Outings.

Wheelbarrow Maze

One of our favorite activities was the Wheelbarrow Maze.  The kids loved pushing them around the hay and having races.  They also enjoyed riding in them while we got a little workout!

Corn Box

They loved jumping in the corn box and pretending they were swimming side to side!  There were tractors and other toys available to play with as well.

Rubber Duck Races

The Rubber Duck Races were a big hit and one of their favorite activities.  Fun for adults as well!

Educational Farm

In addition to being a pumpkin patch, Bloom Where You’re Planted is an educational farm.  Everyone has heard of the Great Pumpkin, but did you know there are Green Pumpkins?  They apparently are perfect for pumpkin pie!

Helpful Tips for Visiting Vala’s Pumpkin Patch!

September 14, 2012

My family and I love visiting Vala’s Pumpkin Patch.  It is one of the best Pumpkin Patches in the country and we are lucky to have it right here in Gretna!  Last year, we purchased a family pass and visited at least once/week with my two young children.  My kids love it, although I am not sure who is more excited when we visit!

There is so much to see and do, be sure to plan several hours (if not the entire day!) to experience Vala’s.  Free parking is available, although it is best to arrive early on the weekends to avoid long lines.  Enjoy!

Be sure to also see:

  • What’s New in 2012 at Vala’s
  • Family-Friendly Halloween Events in Omaha
  • Omaha Area Pumpkin Patches and Fall Festivals
  • Free Fall Fun in Omaha
  • Upcoming Free Family Events in Omaha and Nationwide

Highlights

  • There are many activities for all ages to enjoy.  44 Attractions and 3 Live Shows Daily all included in the admission price.
  • My young children love the Storybook Barn, Hayrack ride, the huge slide, petting corral, Bunnyville, Ducky Derby, Pedal Trikes, and the Barnyard Adventure Ride.
  • My favorites are the Pumpkin Jump, Corn Maze, Lost Pumpkin Mine, and Family Pedal Carts (I cannot stop laughing when I ride those!)
  • Older kids and teens enjoy all of the above plus Pumpkinapolis 500 Extreme track and Haunted Farmhouse
  • Many Play Areas are available including the Applewood Play Area, Hackberry Hideout, and the Corn Wagon Play Area.
  • Live Shows add to the fun!  The Pig Races (listen closely for the pig jokes!), Pumpkin Cannon, Pumpkin Eating Dragon Show, and the Barnyard Animal Band (my kids favorite!) are all enjoyable.
  • Ample shopping for pick-your-own pumpkins, gourds, jams, cider, candy, and baked goods (you get to smell these on the way out!)
  • Reserve a campfire and cook your own dinner or s’mores!

What to Bring

  • Sunscreen, water, good walking shoes, and a jacket for the cooler evenings.
  • Strollers – If you have little ones, it is a good idea to bring a smaller stroller for when they get tired (since there is a lot of walking).  It is a little difficult to move the strollers through the dirt walkways, and so a lightweight stroller is best.
