Sunday Matinees at the Museum: Maleficent (2014)

Explore our summer exhibition, Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume, then watch those same costumes come to life in a unique theater experience in the Truhlsen Lecture Hall. Watch a classic blockbuster on our big screen, and enjoy popcorn and refreshments from our old-fashioned Soda Fountain, as well as themed activities for each matinee.

Movie experience included in museum admission; FREE for museum members.

America in Color: Coming to America, Film Screening

Join us for a series of screenings from the Smithsonian Channel celebrating and exploring America’s 250th through a variety of subjects! 

On the first Sunday of the month, one film in the series is shown on the big screen at 1PM in the Stanley and Dorothy Truhlsen Lecture Hall. The film is included with regular museum admission and free to members. 

For many immigrants, their first sight of the U.S. is the Statue of Liberty. The iconic structure promises sanctuary, hope, and a fresh start, but they soon learn that America’s arms are not always open. Colorized rare home movies and archival footage reveal the amazing stories of ordinary people who share the same dream. From Caribbean immigrants who settled in Harlem to Italian “radicals” shipped back home to celebrities such as Albert Einstein, see how America changed as immigrants brought new cultures from the margins to the mainstream.

Frank Bigelow is about to die, and he knows it. The accountant has been poisoned and has only 24 hours before the lethal concoction kills him. Determined to find out who his murderer is, Frank, with the help of his assistant and girlfriend, Paula, begins to trace back over his last steps. As he frantically tries to unravel the mystery behind his own impending demise, his sleuthing leads him to a group of crooked businessmen and another murder.

On select Monday evenings July through October, moviegoers are invited to eat, drink and play movie trivia while enjoying a line-up of family favorites, cult classics and big-screen blockbusters. 

Each screening will begin at 7 pm.

Film Streams’ free outdoor movie series, Film Streams on the Green, is returning to North Downtown Omaha this summer and fall at Sonny’s Builders District.
