Woofstock: Halloween in the Bark

Free and open to the public

Dress those furry friends to the nines and strut on over to Turner Park for a dog-focused day of fun at Midtown Crossing! Woofstock brings pets, their humans and the community together for an energetic fall day, complete with: 

  • Pup-Up Dog Park (in Turner Park), all sizes and breeds
  • Local vendors with pet-themed offerings
  • “Pet and Play” with local rescues
  • Outdoor Yard Games
  • Dog Costume Parade at Noon
  • Plenty of food and drink on the Turner Park Patio – your pup is welcome!
  • “Pawsport” BINGO

Craft & Costume Swap

From Sept. 2 – 24, we are accepting clean and gently used craft supplies and Halloween costumes. (Please wait to donate fabric until the Fabric Swap in the spring). 

On Saturday, Sept. 27, browse through our selection of donated craft supplies and Halloween costumes from the community! You don’t need to donate to shop the swap.

Zootacular

Zootacular is when Halloween comes alive at the Zoo. Explore glowing pathways, trick-or-treat stations, live entertainment, after-hours animal encounters, and unforgettable family fun after dark. Ticket sales will be available soon.

Don’t forget, Zoo members receive a 20% discount on admission!

6th Annual Halloween Witchy Woods Walk with Dustin Clayton

You’ll see the changing forest in a whole new light after this Halloween hike! Take part and examine how folklore can deepen your relationship with the forest and prairie. Learn about the plant, animal, and mineral communities of the Loess Hills and their significance in the seasonal folklore associated with Halloween. If time allows, we’ll return to the lodge for a demonstration of some of the items and techniques discussed on the hike.

The land itself is in transformational mode. Autumn has reached and passed its peak. The last of the nut harvests are happening and the Autumn Olives, rotten invasives that they are, are ready to be eaten and enjoyed. The birds who are leaving are in full migration mode, while those who are staying are preparing and caching for the coming winter. The deer have begun their rutt, cold weather is the norm, and most of the leaves have fallen from the trees.

This time of year we humans are especially receptive to hearing about the connections between the natural world and how our ancestors have conceptualized natural forces through myth and ritual. Join us for a physical and spiritual adventure!

All Hallows Eve Festival

This year’s annual All Hallows Eve Festival at Botna Bend promises fun for the entire family including hayrack rides, hot dogs, and trick-or-treating! The public is invited to participate in fun fall activities hosted by Botna Bend Park staff and campers.

A $3 per vehicle entry fee or Pottawattamie Conservation membership is required to enter the park if you are not camping. Free will donations will be gratefully accepted and used to fund additional free and low-cost public programming at your county parks.

The following events will take place at Olsen Lodge in the Middle Campground:

  • 4:30-5:30 p.m. | Hot Dogs
  • 6:30-8:00 p.m. | Hayrack Rides & Trick or Treating
  • 9:00 p.m. | Halloween Campsite Decorating Contest Awards Ceremony
  • The Feed Trough will be onsite with homemade fries and funnel cakes for sale.

Chili Fest

Bring the whole family out and enjoy a warm bowl of chili in the crisp fall air at the Arrowhead Park Chili Fest. This annual fall tradition will be on Saturday, October 10th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and promises fun for the whole family!

Join us for games, pumpkin painting, and of course, CHILI!

Hayrack ride trick-or-treating will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A $3/vehicle park entry fee or membership is required to enter the park. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted & used to fund additional free and low-cost public programming at your county parks. For questions not answered online please call Arrowhead Park at 712-485-2295.
