3rd Annual Costume Night at Cochran Park

September 29, 2025

Put on your costumes and join for the third annual Costume Night at Cochran Park (100 S 21st Street) on Friday, October 10, from 6-8 p.m.
Free activities include:

Bones and Blacklights – Unearthing Nature’s Secrets in Skulls

What telltale signs etched in skulls help you to identify craniums? Find out the answers to this quandary and much more! Using only a blacklight to guide you, scavenge for hidden animal skulls. Use your newfound knowledge to unravel the creature’s identification!

Registration:  $5 per person; no charge for family members ages 4 years and under. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Paws in the Patch – Dog Days & Costume Contest

Paws in the Patch – Dog Days at Ditmars + Costume Contest!
Join us on Sunday, October 26th, from 11am to 2pm for a the only day we allow your furry friends to romp around the orchard, all while supporting a great cause.
This event benefits the Council Bluff’s Midlands Humane Society, and we’ll be giving out some fantastic prizes!
Event Details:
Registration/Check-in: 11am at the Admission Booth outside
Costume Contest Begins: 12pm
Winners Announced: 1pm
We’re giving out pawesome 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for both the winning pups and their humans!
 
More to Enjoy:
Vendors: We’ll have local vendors on-site, including the amazing dog (& cat!) treat connoisseurs from Council Bluffs’s own Honey’s Yummies. So even if you don’t win a prize, you can still snag some delicious goodies to take home!
The amazing sisters of ZenSage Crystals will also be back at the orchard – even your furry friends’ need some energy alignment!
We will also have Knots of Bows out here showcasing their adorable bowties & bows for your special furry friends!
Live Music: Enjoy a performance by the talented Hector Anchondo, 1 – 4pm.
Adoptions Available:
Don’t have a dog to dress up? No problem! The Midlands Humane Society will be on-site with information about volunteering and available dogs looking for their forever homes.
Food and Drink:
We’ll have options for food and drinks (both alcoholic & non-alcoholic) available outside for all the humans. **Please note that dogs are not allowed inside, but they are more than welcome to join the fun outside!
 

Admission & How to Register for Costume Contest:
Admission is just $10 for your pup (includes registration for the costume contest if checked), with all proceeds going to the Midlands Humane Society. And there is the normal $10 admission for the humans – You can sign up ahead of time online or pay on the day of the event!

Mystery at the Mansion: Murder at the Halloween Costume Party

Join in the mischief, mayhem, and murder at our Halloween Costume Murder Mystery Party!

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite costume, with prizes awarded for the best-dressed characters. Costumes and props will also be available. Each participant will receive a character packet and objectives to mingle, gather clues, and solve the murder. Guests can also self-guide through the mansion, decorated for our Vintage Halloween Celebration.

Halloween Day Happenings at Schramm Park SRA

Visit the Treehouse Classroom at Schramm State Recreation Area this Halloween for Halloween-themed activities and learn about why bats, spiders and owls are not as spooky as some people say they are.

We’ll make spooky “Zines” that you can share with friends to teach them
fun facts about some of our favorite nocturnal animals.

A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

Living History Weekend – Vintage Halloween at Arbor Lodge

September 29, 2025

What are the origins of Halloween traditions? Visit Arbor Lodge to step back in time for Vintage Halloween.

Activities will include History of Halloween traditions displays, games, and hands-on-crafts will be fun for the whole family. During the weekend of October 25-26, Arbor Lodge will host special pumpkin carving demonstrations by Mikel Holland.

In the past, Vintage Halloween was only held on the last weekend of October. However, Arbor Lodge has expanded events this year for an  “All Hallow’s Eve” Celebration across Arbor Day Farm. Visit arbordayfarm.org and look for All Hallow’s Eve for information on the incredible festival planned at Tree Adventure.

Spooktacular Halloween at Two Rivers SRA

September 29, 2025

Join for a free two-day Halloween event at Two Rivers SRA! Activities include hayrack rides, trunk-or-treating, pumpkin painting, a raptor presentation, campsite decorating contest and more!

Activities will take place at the Goldenrod Campground. This event is hosted in partnership with the family of David Trost and the Nebraska RV and Camping Community Facebook group.

Evening of Friday, Oct. 10

  • Hot dogs and nachos being served at event host David Trost’s site
  • Hayrack rides
  • Face painting
  • Campsite decorating contest registration

Saturday, Oct. 11

  • Scavenger hunt
  • Pumpkin painting

  • Pelts & skulls naturalist program
  • Fontenelle Forest critter program (1 p.m.)

31st Annual Haunted Hollow at Indian Cave State Park

September 29, 2025

Join us for the 31st Annual Haunted Hollow at beautiful Indian Cave State Park! Spooky activities will take place on Oct. 9-10, 17, and 24.

Schedule of Events

October 9

6-8 p.m.: Trick-or-Treat on the Town – Children up to age 12 are invited to go trick-or-treating along the decorated trail through the town of St. Deroin. A food truck will also be available.
Pricing: $3 per person ages 4+, free for ages 3 and under (includes hayrack ride).

October 10, 17 & 24

2 p.m.: Pumpkin Roll for all ages; $3 per person
6-8 p.m.: Trick-or-treating in RV campground (walk through only-no vehicles).
7-9 p.m.: Haunted Hayrack Rides – Adults: $10, kids ages 4-12 yrs: $7, ages 3 and under: free. Tickets go on sale on Oct. 1 and may be purchased by phone or in person. Limited tickets and no refunds.
8:30-10 p.m.: Drive through traffic in RV campground to look at decorated sites.
9-10 p.m.: Campsite Decorating Contest Judging

October 17

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Jack-O-Lantern Junk & Craft Market – Shop local this season! Food trucks will also be available. Vendor booth space ($15) available by calling the park office (402) 883-2575.
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: 11th Annual Pink Pumpkin Walk – Join us for some exercise and a great cause fundraising for a local cancer organization. Cost is $25 per person. Registration deadline: Oct. 4.
3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Trick-or-Treat by the Buses – Buskatiers (VW buses) will hand out candy to kids.
 
A valid state park vehicle permit is required upon entry.
