Monarch Tagging Event
One special event coming soon is Monarch Tagging on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
Registration is open now, and usually fills up quickly!
At this family-friendly event, participants will discover more about monarch butterflies and their migration to Mexico and learn how to catch and handle monarchs for research. Following the presentation, participants are invited to hit the trails to hunt for monarch butterflies. Captured butterflies can be returned to the Loess Hills Lodge for tagging and release by staff.

Time: Four programming sessions are offered – 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Admission: $5 per person, FREE for children age 3 & under (Fee includes admission to the park & use of equipment; pre-registration is required.)

Directions: From Interstate I-29 take the Crescent exit and travel east to The Old Lincoln Highway. Hitchcock Nature Center is located 5 miles north of Crescent off of The Old Lincoln Highway.
