Spirits of the Past: Prohibition Lock-In (Adults Only)

Raise a glass to history and join for an exclusive after-hours Lock-In in the Genealogy & Local History Room! Our theme this year is Prohibition—a time of hidden speakeasies, bootleggers, and secret stories waiting to be uncovered.

As OPL hosts their final lock-in at this temporary location, take advantage of uninterrupted research time, explore the stacks, and connect with fellow genealogy enthusiasts who share your passion for uncovering family stories.

Family history isn’t just about dates and documents—it’s about solving mysteries, piecing together forgotten lives, and bringing your ancestors’ stories to light. Whether you’re a seasoned researcher or just beginning your journey, this evening will inspire and equip you to dig deeper into your past.

Enjoy themed drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), light snacks, and door prizes as we toast to history!

Haunted Omaha Escape Room (Adults Only)

There’s something supernatural happening at the library, and we need your help to put the spirits to rest before time runs out! Come solve clues and puzzles based on the haunted history of Omaha, from Hummel Park to the White House Apartments to secret underground mob rings and more. Do you believe in ghosts?

This is a free event for adults ages 19 and up. Registration is required and opens Sept. 15. There will be a session at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Lunch & Learn – Native American Life (Adults Only)

Have you ever wondered about the ins and outs of Native Americans life on the plains? What their homes looked like? How their villages were structured? Join for a “travelling history” presentation by a speaker from the Durham Western Heritage Museum. This event is free to attend and open to everyone. Lunch will be provided, so bring a friend!
