Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume is a showcase of nearly 70 mesmerizing ensembles spanning close to five decades of Disney film and television.
Dinosaurs Around the World: Passport to Pangea
Step into a prehistoric adventure at Lauritzen Gardens with Dinosaurs Around the World: Passport to Pangea, on view May 30 through September 7, 2026. Produced by Imagine, this immersive traveling exhibition transforms the garden into a journey across ancient Earth, where life-sized animatronic dinosaurs roar, move, and captivate visitors of all ages.

Omaha Children’s Museum: Ciao Bambini!
Get ready to experience the heart and soul of Italy like never before at Omaha Children’s Museum through our newest cultural exhibit Ciao Bambini! This immersive, educational experience is designed to transport children and their families to the enchanting world of Italy, where history, art, and culture come to life. Ciao Bambini! is a nationally traveling exhibit created by The Magic House, St. Louis. The Children's Museum will be open on Labor Day this Year!
Snakes of Nebraska
Have you ever heard a rattlesnake? Smelled snake musk? Felt the keeled scales of a garter snake?
Schramm Education Center is hosting its annual “Snakes of Nebraska” event on Saturday, August 29th and Sunday, August 30th! University of Nebraska-Lincoln herpetologist Dennis Ferraro and his lab will lead a live snake encounter featuring most of Nebraska’s 29 snake species. The live snake exhibits will be set up open-house style in the Schramm Education Center classroom and will be available on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 4:30 pm.

Carter’s Village Pointe Grand Re-Opening
Celebrate the grand re-opening of Carter’s at Village Pointe with fun for the whole family! Join Carter’s September 3–7 for special activities throughout the week, including KiwiCo projects, face painting, custom patches, and gourmet pops from Frios. Kids can get creative, enjoy a sweet treat, and celebrate the newly reopened store! Activities take place from 11 AM–1 PM on select days.

Film Streams on the Green: The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021)
Film Streams’ free outdoor movie series, Film Streams on the Green, is returning to North Downtown Omaha this summer and fall at Sonny's Builders District. On select Monday evenings July through October, moviegoers are invited to eat, drink and play movie trivia while enjoying a line-up of family favorites, cult classics and big-screen blockbusters. Each screening will begin at 7 pm.

Curiosity Crew is back with a brand new look! Starting this month Curiosity Crew is specifically developed for kids six and under with their parent or caretaker. Each month we’ll cover a brand new science topic and complete an activity or art project associated with it. This month we’re kicking off fall by learning why leaves change colors and making nature inspired leaf prints. This is a free event for ages 2-6.

Each week, Quasar pairs up a local business with a local charitable cause, to present a “Classic” retro title for a “Free-to-the-Public ” event to raise awareness and support. This is a great way for your organization to educate and interact with an eager audience. Solicitation of free-will donations or mission-specific item donations can be part of pre-event, advertising co-op.

Pet Plushie Adoption Day
Join OPL for a cuddly and creative adoption day at the library in celebration of National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month in October! Children are invited to listen to a tail-wagging read-aloud about pet adoption, then choose from a variety of different animal plushies to "adopt" and take home. Each animal plushie comes with the option to create a collar and special house along with the completion of an adoption certificate. Kids will have time to name their new friend and imagine fun adventures together. Come for the stories and fun-leave with a snuggly new companion! Select locations will have furry and scaly visitors from the Nebraska Humane Society! Check with the branch for more details. This is a free event for kids ages 3-10. Registration is required.

Midtown Mix: Post Service Collective (Funk)
Midtown Mix is a laid-back neighborhood gathering where music takes center stage and community comes together. Bring a lawn chair, claim a park bench, or settle in on a nearby restaurant patio and enjoy the show up close. Better yet, grab your favorite beverage to-go from a Midtown Crossing establishment and sip while you listen. Beer, wine, and champagne are permitted, making Midtown Mix the perfect way to unwind, connect, and ease into the weekend.

Botna Bend Pancake Feed
Every spring, Botna Bend park rangers Jon Fenner and Cory Thomas and their staff tap the silver maple trees that call the park home and collect their sweet sap to make homemade maple syrup. You can taste the delicious fruits of their labor by joining us for our annual Pancake Feed! Grilled pancakes and sausage will be served with our homemade maple syrup along with coffee & orange juice from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., so don't be late! Breakfast is free, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted and will be used to fund Botna Bend Park projects and improvements.

Monarch Tagging – FREE drop-in program
Flutter over to the garden on Saturday, September 5 from 9 a.m. to noon for a monarch tagging event. Each fall, monarch butterflies set out on an extraordinary journey traveling thousands of miles to overwintering sites in Mexico. By gently capturing, tagging, and releasing these butterflies, researchers are able to track their migration, study survival rates, and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges they face along the way. This experience is included with paid garden admission. FREE for garden members. No pre-registration is required.
Celebrate at The Platform: Labor Day
Join at The Platform, the museum’s interactive play space, and celebrate the holidays with us! Each date will have a special craft or activity and feature related photos from our Photo Archive for a bit of a history lesson while you celebrate. On Saturday, we celebrate Labor Day and workers' contributions to our country and world.
Heartwood Kids Club
Saturday mornings belong to the kids. Heartwood Kids Club is a free weekly program filled with hands-on fun designed especially for children ages 4–8. Activities can include crafts, demonstrations, creative projects or interactive experiences each week brings a new surprise. Out & About Storytime: The Joslyn
Join OPL at The Joslyn for storytime, featuring stories, creative movement, music and exploration of a piece of art. Storytime is geared toward preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. This Storytime is part of The Joslyn's monthly Art-tastic Saturdays.
Watercolor Basics
Join Luba Carlson from Kalina Art Studio to create art using watercolors. This three-hour class will guide you through basic watercolor techniques, and you will leave with a finished piece you are proud of! This is a free event for adults (19+). Registration is required
Afro Fest Omaha

Rally on the Route – 16th Street Block Party
Join at Rally on the Route, a free block party to celebrate and support businesses in the streetcar corridor. On Saturday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., 16th Street will be fenced off between Farnam and Harney streets for food and drinks, family-friendly fun, beats by a local DJ, and performances and activities by the Omaha Symphony, Opera Omaha and and more local community partners to be announced.
Space Race Escape Room
Houston, we have a problem! Your space mission has gone off course, and it’s up to your crew to solve puzzles themed around the historic space race and real space facts. Work together to crack codes, explore the solar system, and complete your mission before time runs out! This is a free event for children ages 8-12. Registration is required
