Art In the Park: Fuzzy Printing Workshop
Turn drawings into prints through the process of trace monotypes. Using ink, paper, and the pressure of only a pencil, we will transfer designs to create a unique print. The transfer process creates a textured, contour fuzzy-line characteristic to these playful prints. Visitors will be welcome to create their own drawings or work from found images. It's next Monday, September 7, with the parade kicking off downtown at 10 a.m. The parade route winds through the city’s historic core, beginning at 16th and Cass Streets, heading south to Capitol Avenue, east to 10th Street, north to Mike Fahey Street, and west before concluding at 12th and Cass.

Curiosity Crew is back with a brand new look! Starting this month Curiosity Crew is specifically developed for kids six and under with their parent or caretaker. Schramm After Dark: Spider Night Hike
Did you know that the trails at Schramm are a great WEB-site? Join us for a spider night hike. We will use flashlights to search for sparkling webs and reflective eyes as we hunt for amazing arachnids on the Hackberry Trail. Bring your own flashlight or head lamp. This is a free program; State Park Vehicle Entry Permit required. Meet at the park shelter next to Pond A (the first pond as you enter the park).
Classics With a Cause Series: Pulp Fiction
Each week, Quasar pairs up a local business with a local charitable cause, to present a “Classic” retro title for a “Free-to-the-Public ” event to raise awareness and support. This is a great way for your organization to educate and interact with an eager audience. Solicitation of free-will donations or mission-specific item donations can be part of pre-event, advertising co-op.

This hike will explore the prairie and woodland habitats of Neale Woods. Trails range from easy to moderate difficulty.
Nebraska Star Party at Mahoney State Park
Join this summer for some stargazing at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park! Powerful telescopes will be set up at the park’s golf shack for a glimpse of the night sky spectaculars. The event is free to the public, but you will need a valid Nebraska park entry permit for your vehicle. Stargazing will begin at dusk. Remember to bring your camp chairs or blankets! Telescopes will be provided.

La Vista Loop One Mile Fun Run
Lace up your shoes and join for the La Vista Loop, a fun, family-friendly 1-mile timed run through the heart of our community! Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a first-time participant, or just looking for a great way to stay active, this event offers something for everyone. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Nines Plaza, with awards presented immediately following the final finisher.
Art In the Park: Make Your Mark
In this workshop you will explore the use of various materials, colors and drawing techniques to create a bookmark. Choose a word or phrase that sparks inspiration and ignites imagination as you make your mark on the world through art. All materials included. This workshop is a drop-in style workshop. Seats are limited and are first come first serve. Location: RiverFront Park at the Arrival Plaza outside of Kiewit Luminarium
Monarch Tagging: Community Science Day
A morning of butterfly tagging at the Neale Woods prairie, where you will learn how to get involved in national conservation efforts. Naturalist educators will explain the background of the Monarch Watch tagging project and show participants how to safely catch and tag the butterflies. Participants can take a set of tags home after the program to continue protecting these iconic butterflies in their own communities!
Heartwood Kids Club
Saturday mornings belong to the kids. Heartwood Kids Club is a free weekly program filled with hands-on fun designed especially for children ages 4–8. Activities can include crafts, demonstrations, creative projects or interactive experiences each week brings a new surprise. Kids must be accompanied by an adult, so the whole family can enjoy a playful start to the weekend together. Happening every Saturday morning June 13th through September.
Make a Nature Zine
Join naturalists at E.T. Mahoney State Park in the James Family Conservatory and Nature Center classroom for a workshop where you will learn to make mini magazines with a nature theme. Zines can be shared to bring joy and spread a positive message about nature. Participants will make zines to keep or share. Materials are provided. This program is best for ages 7 and up, but younger friends are welcome and may join or enjoy other nature center activities. The program is free and does not require registration, but a valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

This interactive experience explores the fascinating world of natural pigments. Brunch & Learn – Nebraska Wildlife Rehab
Nebraska Wildlife Rehab will visit the library to talk about the bats native to Nebraska. This presentation includes an overview of basic bat biology, addresses myths and biases about bats, and introduces the a myriad of ways they benefit humans
World O! Water Festival
World O! Water is a fun, annual event for all ages to learn about the important role water plays in our lives and community. Everyone is welcome to this free event including families, youth groups and scout troops, and even your dog! Join in the fun on Saturday, September 12th from 12 noon til 4 pm at Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Enjoy a free hotdog lunch while supplies last.
Fall Fest Pop Up Pumpkin Patch
Celebrate the start of Fall with an afternoon of pumpkins, cold beer, live music and family friendly fun at our annual Fall Fest! They’ve teamed up with the Kumpf Family Farm to bring a real pumpkin patch right to the brewery. Browse pumpkins of every shape and size, along with fall decor including corn stalks, hay bales and milo to get your home ready for autumn. For the kiddos: Live Bunnies, Face Painting, Balloon artist, corn pit dig, yard games, slushies, ice cream and more!
35th Annual Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow
The Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow highlights Native American dance, music, regalia, oral history and arts. With its rich ties to Native American history, where Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his people were detained pending the 1879 landmark civil rights case granting Native Americans the right of Habeas corpus, the Fort Omaha Campus continues to offer an ideal location for this outdoor community event uniting people of diverse cultures, races, socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. This event is family-friendly and free and open to the public.
Celebrating Native American cultures, the powwow honors the traditional dance, music, artistry, oral history and foods of various tribes across Nebraska and the surrounding region including Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux and Winnebago.
Beginning Drawing
Discover the basics of drawing in this beginner-friendly class led by artist Yulia Brynskikh. Participants will learn foundational techniques using simple tools such as pencils while exploring line, shading, and observation. No prior drawing experience is needed. Come enjoy a summer movie under the stars at Flix at the Chef—free outdoor movie nights that Relevant puts on for our city behind Dairy Chef in Elkhorn. Bring your blankets, chairs, family and friends and enjoy the movie “Moana” (2016) on Saturday, on Sept 12. Free popcorn and water will be provided. Food, drinks, and ice cream will be for sale at Dairy Chef as well. All movies begin at dusk.
