Do pumpkin guts drive you nuts? Check out your pumpkin target precision as you learn how to use the primitive spear throwing device called an atlatl at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. Who needs foam targets when we’ve got fall pumpkins? Meet behind the Bur Oak Shelter. This activity is free and open to anyone age six or older. A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

The Luminarium’s Fright Lab
10:00-1:00 Luminarium Member only. 1:00-5:00 Open to All for reduced Admission. Trick-or-Treating, Strange Science, and More! Come dressed in costume* for a fun day of trick-or-treating, strange science, and more! This Halloween season, the Luminarium is celebrating with our first-annual Fright Lab experience. Explore the museum and see how it’s been transformed for the season full of fun and surprises. Science demos including sheep eye dissections will make for a day of educational AND spooky-fun experiences. *Leave your samurai swords, light sabers, and blasters at home, please. Spooky Glow Painting
Come and create a spooky canvas that glows! You’ll be given a black canvas to decorate using phosphorescent paint and stencils. Your final creation will glow-in-the-dark! Paint your canvas as you share about your own paranormal experiences or listen as staff share a spooky story. This is a free event for kids 8-12. Gouge a Gourd at Mahoney State Park
Do pumpkin guts drive you nuts? Check out your pumpkin target precision as you learn how to use the primitive spear throwing device called an atlatl at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park. Who needs foam targets when we’ve got fall pumpkins? Meet behind the Bur Oak Shelter. This activity is free and open to anyone age six or older. A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.

Can your team solve the puzzles before time runs out? Sign up to reserve your spot in the challenge. No library card required. For incoming Grades 2-5. The instructions and game will take approximately 45 minutes. Do not sign up for more than one timeslot.

JUNK IN THE TRUNK is a walk-through route of creatively decorated car trunks, each offering treats and kid-friendly fun. 6th Annual Halloween Witchy Woods Walk with Dustin Clayton
You'll see the changing forest in a whole new light after this Halloween hike! Take part and examine how folklore can deepen your relationship with the forest and prairie. Learn about the plant, animal, and mineral communities of the Loess Hills and their significance in the seasonal folklore associated with Halloween. If time allows, we'll return to the lodge for a demonstration of some of the items and techniques discussed on the hike.
Teen Central: Slime Popcorn
Make deliciously ghoulish popcorn balls with marshmallow and Jello! This event is open to patrons in the 6th-12th grades while supplies last.
Laser-cut Bigfoot & costumes (Adults Only)
Make a Bigfoot silhouette and paper-doll style costumes to put on him.
Haunted Omaha Escape Room (Adults Only)
There’s something supernatural happening at the library, and we need your help to put the spirits to rest before time runs out! Come solve clues and puzzles based on the haunted history of Omaha, from Hummel Park to the White House Apartments to secret underground mob rings and more. Do you believe in ghosts? This is a free event for adults ages 19 and up. Registration is required and opens Sept. 15. There will be a session at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Momotaro: The Peach Boy of Japan
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be in a play? Now’s your chance to learn! The Circle Theatre will bring part of the cast of “Momotaro: the Peach Boy of Japan” to share what it’s like to put on a play. They’ll perform a scene from the play, teach us a traditional Japanese dance, and help us create a Japanese bunraku puppet so that we can be part of the action, too. This is a free event for families with children ages 5 and older and does not require registration.

Pilates for a Purpose: A Breast Cancer Awareness Event
Attendees will enjoy an uplifting mat Pilates class led by Loft’s instructors, plus wellness freebies from local partners, and breast self-exam education from local specialists. To give back, 100% of ticket proceeds benefit Project Pink’d, an Omaha nonprofit supporting breast cancer survivors. What to Bring: A mat, water bottle, and towel.
