Fire Station 4 Open House
The Papillion Fire Department, which services La Vista, will host an open house at Station 4 in La Vista to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. You’re invited to tour the fire station, chat with local firefighters, climb inside vehicles and enjoy some light refreshments.
Insect Adventure at Wildlife Safari Park
Open now through October 5, 2025! The biggest little adventure in town is crawling, buzzing, and flying its way to Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park! Experience Insect Adventure, an all-new giant journey, featuring 35 supersized animatronic insects and spiders from around the world. Enjoy a self-guided exploration with familiar favorites, like the monarch butterfly, honeybees, and the black widow spider, while encountering unique species such as the Madagascar hissing cockroach and the bullet ant.
20th Annual HawkWatch 5K Walk/Run
Welcome to the 19th Annual HawkWatch 5K Walk/Run! Grab your running or walking shoes and join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on Sunday, October 5th. Proceeds support Pottawattamie Conservation's efforts to preserve habitat in the county and offer low-impact recreational opportunities for the public to enjoy.

9th Annual Porchfest
The 9th Annual Porchfest OMA is Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 11am to 6pm. The free community festival has over 80 performances that take place on 14 stages including Omaha Mobile Stage at Yates Illuminates, the neighborhood market stage, seven more music porches, an open mic porch, a poetry porch, a comedy porch, an art porch, and official after party (6-10pm) in Omaha’s Gifford Park Neighborhood at 33rd & California Street.

Celebrate fall at A.V. Sorensen Branch and Community Center! At this Music & Movement, we will learn about fire safety with a local firefighter and even see a fire truck! After storytime, get the wiggles out in the gym and bounce in a bounce house! We are inviting firefighters from our nearby station so they may not be able to make it if they receive a call.
Full Moon Hike
Join for an evening hike on the trails at Hitchcock Nature Center. They'll start off under the glow of sunset as we hike to the best vantage point to witness the rise of this month's full moon.

This season marks the 34th year of Hitchcock HawkWatch, and you're invited to learn more about their important conservation work! Swing by the Loess Hills Lodge gallery from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. any Saturday in October to learn more about what their research is uncovering in our gallery displays, enjoy refreshments including lemonade and cookies, and see what raptors are passing through atop the park's 45-foot observation tower.
