Join at the Outdoor Heritage Complex at Platte River State Park on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Veterans Appreciation Day! They’d like to honor and show our respect for those who have served in a war, sacrificing of themselves for the common good of our country. The first 50 visitors with any military ID will receive a token for one free shooting activity. This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome.

There will be a brief presentation on the significance of the lotus flower and the Lotus Lantern Festival, a step-by-step craft session where participants create their own traditional Korean lotus lantern, and a short documentary on Korea to close the event. Mush in to meet a real Iditarod racer and sled dog! Join Karen and Sophia, the Alaskan husky, for a presentation about mushing, a demonstration of Arctic clothing and gear, and a Q&A. Dog mushing is a traditional mode of Arctic transportation, and 2025 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Serum Run with Balto and Togo — the historic event on which the Iditarod race is based. Celebrate these brave dogs and mushers with Karen and Sophia at the library!

All craft materials will be provided while supplies last. All you need is your imagination! Fantasy awaits! This is a free event for children 6-12. Registration is required.
Help the princess build the most comfortable mattress! After reading The Princess and the Pea, participants will have one hour to complete a challenge: create a mattress so comfy that you can’t feel the “pea”! At the end of the program, we’ll put each creation to the test and see which is the comfiest. This is a free program for kids ages 8–10. Registration is required
