Jan 19th – 23rd – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Story Walk – FREE

  • Join at Heartland of America Park this week to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a story walk near the 8th Street Plaza!
  • Location: Heartland of America Park – 800 Douglas St, Omaha, NE 68102

Jan 19th – UNO: Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – 8:30am-2:00pm – FREE [REGISTER]

  • Volunteers will enjoy free breakfast, lunch, and roundtrip transportation to service sites. Afterwards, you’ll have the option to attend a special panel discussion on public service careers.

Jan 19th – Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service at Open Door Mission – 9:00am-5:00pm [REGISTER]

  • Americans will once again honor the memory and message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a national Day of Service, led by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
  • Limited availability. Registration required ahead of time.

Jan 19th – United Way: 4th Annual MLK Day Luncheon – 10:00am-1:00pm – FREE [REGISTER]

  • During the event, 64 community partner volunteers will come together to assemble Good on the Go snack kits for the Heart Ministry Center. The number of 64 volunteers was specifically selected to represent the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
  • Following the kit build, volunteers will be treated to a meal from Big Mama’s Kitchen and Catering – with additional meals being delivered to Black Men United for distribution.

Jan 19th – Durham Museum Free Admission for Martin Luther King Jr. Day – 10:00am-4:00pm – FREE

  • The Durham Museum is proud to offer free admission to the community on Monday, January 19th, 10AM-4PM, to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Join the museum as we highlight MLK’s legacy and message of peace, tolerance, community service, and an inclusive, hopeful future for all. 
  • In addition to the museum’s permanent exhibitions, guests will enjoy special performances.
  • Location: The Durham Museum – 801 S 10th St, Omaha, NE

Jan 19th – Omaha Performing Arts: Living the Dream – 5:30pm – FREE

  • Each year, 7th–12th grade students in Omaha-area schools are invited to participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. “Living the Dream” competition. This program encourages young people to reflect on the values and vision of Dr. King and other leaders in the ongoing struggle for racial justice and human rights. Students submit original work, including poetry, music, dance, visual art, and other forms of creative expression, that explores how Dr. King’s dream remains relevant in their lives and in our community today.
  • Join as they celebrate these powerful voices. Doors open at 5:00 PM and the show begins at 5:30 PM, hosted by event MC Houston Alexander. A licensed mental health professional, Tia Manning, will also be available on-site to support anyone who may wish to connect during the event.
  • Location: Holland Performing Arts Center – 1200 Douglas St., Omaha, NE
