Join Keep Omaha Beautiful as they dig into the world of composting and discover how to keep food scraps and other organic materials out of the landfill. Test your skills by sorting different organics into appropriate composting streams. Take a closer look inside a vermicompost bin and meet the worms hard at work turning our food waste into healthy soil.
Participants will have the opportunity to create single-sheets booklets (8-page zines) taking inspiration from Nebraska wildlife, nature journaling—or coming up with their own themes. During this hands-on creative session makers will fold, cut, collage and draw. Content and writing prompts, recycled comics, ephemera, and printing stamps will be available. All puns welcome! In his book Moving to Higher Ground, composer Wynton Marsalis writes “Jazz shows us how to find a groove with other people, how to hold on to it, and how to develop it.” During this 21+ adults-only Night Light, we’ll explore the many ways we can take inspiration from the freedom and collaboration of jazz. Beyond music, we’ll consider how the principles of improvisation can shape how we build community and show up in our relationships and daily lives.
In this musical Night Light experience (ages 21+), we ask: What is a groove, exactly? How do humans find rhythm together, create harmony, and turn sound into song? What’s happening in the mind of a musician as they improvise their way through a classic tune, with one foot in tradition and one in the wild unknown? How can science inform creative practices?
Go on a wild science adventure with Keep Omaha Beautiful to explore the mammals in our urban ecosystem! Get hands-on with skulls, pelts, and scat (replicas) from local mammals, uncovering the secrets of who eats what, and how.
In this workshop you will create your own mini polaroid using drawing paper, a template, and a variety of other materials to fill in the blank space. There will be images available for you to trace and color in, you can cut and collage a scene or you are welcome to draw a picture all of your own! The possibilities are endless with a little inspiration and imagination. No matter how you choose to fill your mini polaroid, you will love taking home one of these adorable handmade creations.
