Winterland Ice Skating at Heartwood Preserve
Family-friendly ice rink offers a magical experience for skaters of all ages, nestled in the scenic beauty of Heartwood Preserve. Whether you're a seasoned skater or stepping on to the ice for the first time, their ice rink is the perfect place to create unforgettable memories with loved ones. Open during the winter season, glide, twirl, and delight in the joy of skating in the heart of West Omaha. Only skaters need to reserve a ticket. All attending need to sign a waiver.

Nature Storytime
Bundle up and join Keep Omaha Beautiful educators for a wintery exploration of nature’s hidden magic! We’ll begin by reading "Jayden’s Impossible Garden," a heartwarming story about a boy who finds beauty and nature in unexpected places—even in the middle of a city. After our story, we’ll head outside on a short winter nature walk to observe animal tracks, bare branches, dried seed pods, and other signs of life that often go unnoticed in the colder months. Back inside, we’ll share our discoveries and create a collaborative mural that captures the quiet beauty of Omaha’s winter landscape.
Paint & Sip
Join for a relaxing and creative evening with local artist Yulia Brynskikh! Follow along as Yulia guides you step-by-step in painting a beautiful image—no experience necessary. Have you ever wondered what the Forest looks like after the sun goes down? Now you can find out at our Full Moon Hikes! Come on an evening hike with us and experience the Forest under the light of the moon. Kiddie Craft is a hands-on, creative program designed for children to explore colors, textures, and simple craft techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Each session features themed crafts that help build fine motor skills, encourage creativity, and foster social interaction. Grown-ups are welcome to craft alongside their kids or relax nearby. It’s the perfect way to spark a lifelong love of art and play! Come design sweet Valentine’s cards with hearts, colors, and fun decorations to share with friends! Ages: 0-11
Kids Yoga & Mindfulness Workshop
Join instructor Alexis Espinoza-Arrubla as she leads a workshop on yoga and mindfulness for kids! This workshop offers a fun, engaging way for children and their caregivers to build body awareness, practice self-regulation skills and enhance overall well-being through practices such as yoga, mindful movement, games, relaxation techniques and arts + crafts. Limited yoga mats will be available, however, participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat or blanket.
Valentine’s Candle Decorating
Come join the fine arts department in this 1-day craft class! Art Discovery Days allow you to dip your toes in the possibility of arts & crafts! Participants will use items such as acrylic paint/paint pens, wood pieces, hot glue gun, mod podge, scissors, exacto-knives, scrapbook paper and string.
Out & About Storytime: The Joslyn
Join OPL at The Joslyn for storytime, featuring stories, creative movement, music and exploration of a piece of art. Storytime is geared toward preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. This Storytime is part of The Joslyn's monthly Art-tastic Saturdays.
Rocks and Fossils with the Omaha Children’s Museum
Be a geologist! Be a paleontologist! Find out what these scientists have in common and the tools they use. Learn how different rocks were formed, observe some real fossils, and make your own. This is a free event for ages 6-12.
Puzzle Competition
Grab your team and get ready for a puzzle showdown! Everyone gets the same puzzle, and the race is on to see who can finish first. You’ll have two hours to put the pieces together and solve a small puzzle-related mystery. Only one team will take the crown as Puzzle Champions! Space is limited, and registration is required. Please only register once for each team. Teams are required to have a minimum of 2 members and a max of 5. One member of the team must be 19+.
Owls of Nebraska with NE Wildlife Rehab
Discover the fascinating world of owls! This engaging program introduces the unique adaptations of owls and highlights the species that call Nebraska home. Participants will take part in a dissection of real owl pellets led by experts from NE Wildlife Rehab to uncover what these mysterious birds eat. A hands-on, educational and fun experience for curious minds!
Omaha Zoo Kids Night Out: We Love Animals
Get ready for a wild night filled with fun and discovery! Designed for children ages 5 to 12, Kids Night Out invites young explorers to connect with wildlife in exciting new ways after hours at the Zoo. Led by trained educators, each themed evening includes hands-on activities, up-close animal encounters, behind-the-scenes tours, a movie, pizza, snacks, and much more. Drop-off starts at 5 p.m. and pickup is at 9 p.m. Registration is $50 per child.
Sledding Night
Sled after dark at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock and experience an elevated twist on this favorite winter pastime. Ride the chair lift up the hill and shoot down on a zippy Zibob sled. For safety reasons, all participants must be ages 7 or older. No outside sleds allowed; Sleds are provided by the area. Pre-registration is required for this event. Lodge doors open at 5:30pm
