A Halloween tradition without the frights, Cobweb Castle returns this fall! Clamber your way through the spooky maze, scale the castle wall, or don your sorcerer’s hat and makeup. The not-so-scary Halloween experience is here through November 2. Come and enjoy the fun of Halloween without the scares in our seasonal exhibit, Cobweb Castle!

Family-friendly ice rink offers a magical experience for skaters of all ages, nestled in the scenic beauty of Heartwood Preserve. Whether you're a seasoned skater or stepping on to the ice for the first time, their ice rink is the perfect place to create unforgettable memories with loved ones. Open during the winter season, glide, twirl, and delight in the joy of skating in the heart of West Omaha. Only skaters need to reserve a ticket. All attending need to sign a waiver.

Storybook Land at Westroads Mall
OPL's mascot, Scamper the Prairie Dog, is celebrating a birthday! Meet and greet Scamper's friends and your favorite storybook characters including Very Hungry Caterpillar, Pancake Pig, Taco Dragon, and Biscuit! After each storytime, we'll sing to Scamper and celebrate with treats. Children will receive one free book, while supplies last.
Día de los Muertos with The Omaha Symphony
Family concert with tickets for $21. Enjoy fun an engaging lobby activities like an instrument “petting zoo” and crafts followed by an hour long performance. Join for a fun concert that explores and celebrates the rich traditions of Día de los Muertos! Whether you’ve grown up celebrating Día de los Muertos or are discovering it for the first time, this event offers a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate. Lobby activities start at 1:15pm followed by the show at 2:00pm.

Join OPL at different parks and places for storytime, featuring stories, creative movement, music and more. Storytime is geared toward preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. In November, we will learn about turkeys.
Vision Screening Storytime
Join OPL for a storytime all about eyes and vision! Children ages 6 months to 6 years are invited to participate in a free vision screening by Lions Clubs International after storytime. Parental permission is required.
Writers Workshop: Food Writing (Adults Only)
Join Teaching Artist Sam Lee from the Nebraska Writers Collective. Sam will lead a workshop that explores writing about food from the perspective of those cooking the food as well as writing about restaurant work and the connection between the cook and the consumer. Fantasy Crafts: Dragon Eyes
Join Bri Wright from Golem Forge and try a new crafting hobby. They’ll be making Dragon Eyes out of clay based on the How to Train Your Dragon books by Cressida Cowell. The series is held on the first Wednesday of every month from 9 – 10 am and 10 – 11 am. The cost to participate is $5 per child and $5 per adult per program and includes admission to the Education Center after the program. Schramm Family Pass members participate free. A State Park Vehicle Entry Permit is not required in the Schramm Education Center parking lot.
Murder Mystery Party (Adults Only)
You are cordially invited to a party! Someone has been murdered. Who did it? Everyone had a motive. Everyone had the opportunity. Can you figure it out? This is an interactive event. Bookbinding Workshop: Pamphlet Stitch Binding (Adults Only)
Join Teaching Artist, Chelsea Herman, as they guide us in the technique of pamphlet stitch binding. This hand-stitched binding is well suited for poetry chapbooks, imagery, and short texts or for creating elegant handbound catalogues, menus, and event keepsakes. Learn different variations of this binding and how each offers unique opportunities for presenting content. Patrons will bind their own pamphlet stitch booklet to take home. Suitable for all experience levels. This is a free event for adults 19+. All materials are provided
Lotus Lantern Craft Workshop
Join OPL and Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project for a virtual interactive session! There will be a brief presentation on the significance of the lotus flower and the Lotus Lantern Festival, a step-by-step craft session where participants create their own traditional Korean lotus lantern, and a short documentary on Korea to close the event. This craft is suitable for ages 13+ and younger participants are encouraged to complete the craft with an adult caregiver.
Veterans Shine On 2025
A special night honoring our Veterans. The event will include guest speakers, a laying of the wreath ceremony for our war representatives, music, and the grand lighting of the WWII Colonnade. Speakers include Mayor John Ewing Jr., Councilmember Pete Festersen, and special guests Colonel (Ret) Dwight Lydic. Refreshments will be served. We look forward to your attendance.
