Welcome to Mission: Astronaut, a hands-on experience where visitors learn about space exploration, the technology that makes it possible, how it benefits life on Earth, and more through astronaut training challenges. Each section presents interactive tasks that require an astronaut’s mindset to solve and focus on engineering, physics, teamwork, and fun!
Waitress at Omaha Community Playhouse
Tony Award®-nominated musical Waitress offers a unique recipe for finding happiness in unexpected places. Jenna, an adept pie maker and waitress at the local diner, finds herself trapped in a small town and an unfulfilling marriage. Forever Young Film Series: Curious George
Curious George 2006 Film. Based on the beloved book series, this film features the voices of Frank Welker, Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, David Cross, Eugene Levy, Joan Plowright, and even Dick Van Dyke! This good little monkey has entertained audiences with his mischief for 83 years.
Secret Kindness Agents
Secret Agents Glitter Waffles, Chameleon, Stinger and Ringleader have been recruited by Agent Sunflower (currently undercover at Ellis Elementary School as a school counselor) to make their school a kinder place for all. The school has been overcome with the winter blues, excessive grumpiness, school testing stress and an overall dark cloud of doom and gloom. Will these elementary school students succeed in their secret spy missions? Can they break the secret codes from headquarters? Will their secret agency be discovered? Will they make a difference in this school? Will their excessive use of glitter attract the ire of the janitor? Will they work together better than a herd of cats? What does a glitter waffle taste like and what kind of syrup do you put on it? Join for this exciting spy-tastic adventure play!
Lunar New Year Celebration
Welcome the Lunar New Year at the library! Join on Sunday, February 2 from 2:00-3:00PM for a Lunar New Year celebration. Enjoy a performance by Omaha's Linh Quang Lion and Dragon Dance Troupe with refreshments from Bubbly Tea. Wear red to help us bring good fortune and prosperity for the year of the snake. We hope to see you there!
Up Close & Magical Show at Mahoney
Enjoy family-friendly Omaha magician Ryan Chandler as he performs at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park! With the camera acting as a giant magnifying glass on stage, be sure not to blink as magic & audience members are projected on a large screen. Chandler, who has appeared on television with magicians Penn and Teller, will perform at the Kountze Memorial Theater.
Free Movie: Hook (PG)
Pre-party 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Theater opens at 3:30 p.m.
Movie begins at 4 p.m.
Free but registration is required (only 133 seats in the theater), Join at the movie theater for a free showing of the popular 90’s movie “Hook”.
Before the show, there will be pre-movie fun with crafts, character meet and greet, photo opportunities, raffles, and discounted food and drinks from the Liquid Sunshine Taproom.

Nature Storytime: Ruby’s Birds
Today there will be a special guests from Keep Omaha Beautiful who will read Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson. Just as Ruby learns to identify the birds in her neighborhood, we will also learn to observe specific features in order to identify common backyard Nebraska birds. They will make a tool to help us on our birdwatching adventures and conclude with a bird watching expedition outside.
Fire Safety Storytime
At this storytime, they will learn about fire safety with a local firefighter and even see a fire truck!

Creative Card Making

Stop by the Youth Department at Sump for a fun craft! Supplies will be available (while they last) for one hour for this self-guided activity. First Thursday of each month with Community Helpers from the Police and Fire Departments.
Spark Your Story
Join Washington Branch every Thursday as local community members share their story. Enjoy snacks, engage in discussion with the storyteller, and explore new professions, storytelling mediums, and activities. This program is for teens 11–18 years old.
Baright Escape Night
Test your sleuthing skills at the library! Follow the clues to find hidden objects and earn stamps. Turn in a full stamp card and receive a prize! Don't worry, the fun doesn't stop there... You can grab a new card and keep playing! This activity is aimed at children ages 6-11, but younger siblings and parents can play along too. See you there, super sleuths!

Kids Night Out
Drop the kids off for a camp style evening of fun at AV Sorensen. Kids will eat pizza, do crafts, and play games and parents can enjoy an evening to themselves. For children in 1st-5th grade.
PACE Soup Competition: Soup-er Bowl II
Calling all food lovers and art enthusiasts—Soup-er Bowl is back and bigger than ever! Five chefs (Chef Around the Block, Viva Fit Kitchen, Breeze Bakery, Winchester Bar & Grill, & chef Dakota) compete to create the ultimate soup - and you choose the winner! Learn Fly Tying
Imagine the thrill of catching a fish with a fly you tied yourself! Come learn the art of fly tying with the Cornhusker Fly Fishers. All materials and equipment provided. Best suited for ages 12+. Youth ages 12 to 15 must come with an accompanying adult. Pre-registration for this event is required as supplies are limited.
Couples Hike
Celebrate part of Valentine’s month with your special someone. Head out for a guided hike and return for a craft, hot cocoa and treats. $20/Couple
Valentine’s Tea at Arbor Lodge
Join in the sunroom of Arbor Lodge Mansion for a special Valentine's Tea. Enjoy an assortment of teas and dainty brunch and dessert selections, along with musical entertainment and a brief history of Valentine's Day greetings. In addition to the tea, participants can explore the mansion and view the special “Love Is in the Air” exhibit, featuring displays of Morton Family weddings and vintage Valentine card collections. Teas will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cost is $30 per person and includes your mansion admission and entrance to the tea. Purchase tickets

Forever Young Film Series: Wendell & Wild

Nature Explorers
Nature explorers is an exciting interactive program designed for kids ages 6-11 to explore the wonders of nature and animals. Kids will learn about different animal species, their habitats, and meet an educational animal up close. Take part in an activity or craft and enjoy a guided hike. February's theme is snakes. Are snakes slimy? Where do they go in the winter? We will answer these questions during a meet and greet with a snake
Indoor Winter Farmer’s Market
Exciting News for Omaha Shoppers! The Omaha Winter Market is expanding to better serve our community. Starting this February, you can join us on Saturdays at our brand-new location on the north side of Omaha near 90th and Fort at Fōwling Warehouse Omaha! This will be in addition to the Sunday markets which will still be held at Nebraska Brewing Company. 35+ local vendors featuring baked goods, farm-fresh produce, meats, boutique items, and crafts.
Oregon Trail Live Action
Join for an immersive adventure as we bring the Oregon Trail game to life! After gathering your rations, teams will embark on an interactive journey with hands-on activities reminiscent of the 90s computer game. Can you survive the Oregon Trail? There will be two live action sessions, at 11 a.m. and noon. This is a free event for adults 19+. Registration is required.

The RiverFront Seed Share
Looking to start a garden this year? Come to The RiverFront Community Seed Share to get free pollinator-friendly flower seeds, locally sourced right here in the community! Whether you are new to gardening or have been growing plants for years, this is a great opportunity to meet with other garden-enthusiasts, learn more about the garden community in Omaha, and gather a new collection of seeds for your garden.
Storybook Character Bingo
B – I – N – G – O! How well do you know classic and popular storybook characters? Come play bingo with others at OPL, test your knowledge of storybook characters, and maybe win a book to take home! Come as a family or with friends and enjoy
Valentine’s Day Tea
Valentine's Day teas available in February! The cost is $60/person plus tax. Menu includes a variety of mini treats plus some savory items (all made in the bakery). Seating is limited to 20, reserve your spots.
Container Gardening Workshop
With spring on the horizon, now is the time to start planting! Join Omaha Public Library to learn how to care for, plant, and propagate edible plants in containers from an Omaha Master Gardener. Participants will be given a pot, soil, and seeds to take home. This is a free event for adults 19+. Registration is required.
Big Play Saturday: Valentine’s Cookies with Miss Anne
Stop by for a sweet celebration of love! Miss Anne will be her to help kids decorate their own Valentine's Day cookies. Plus, we'll have a cute craft activity for them to make and take home. Everyone will leave with big hearts and big smiles!
V-Day Cookie Decorating Class
Grab a friend and join for a Valentine's Day cookie decorating class! You will take home a box with six adorable cookies, tools recipe and instructions. The class is $60 and RSVP is required. The last day to register is February 2nd.
Kids Night Out – “Owl” Always Love You
Get ready for a WILD night! While parents enjoy a well-deserved date night, kids ages 5 - 12 years old will discover fun new ways to appreciate wildlife. Hosted by trained educators, each unique program includes pizza, snacks, animal experience, movie time, engaging and educational activities and more! Event drop off is at 5 p.m. and pick up is at 9 p.m. Cost is $50 per child. Limited space is available. Reservations are required
