Want an opportunity to get your family outdoors over your winter break? Would you like to contribute to science? Join their Christmas Bird Count for Kids event at Schramm Education Center! Learn more about the birds that call Schramm home during the winter while participating in the longest running community science project in the country. During the event, participants can choose to help count birds on a hike in the prairie or on a hike down to the Platte River. During the count, we will be recording the number and type of birds we see. After we count, we will join back up in the Schramm Classroom to tally our results and make bird crafts.

Children of all ages will enjoy this fun-packed bash with live music from Dino O’Dell and the T-Rex All-Stars, special crafts and activities. Ring in the noon year in your handmade party hat while enjoying the celebratory bubble wrap stomp and a spectacular balloon drop at noon in the Suzanne and Walter Scott Great Hall. Noon Year's Eve is a fun opportunity for kids of all ages to celebrate the New Year without staying up until midnight. Guests can enjoy a variety of activities, including Ambassador Animals and biofacts for hands-on learning, a DJ, character meet-and-greets, and an early countdown to 2026.

Join environmental education team to celebrate the new year under an open sky with a guided hike in the beautiful Loess Hills. Let the natural world inspire you as you set intentions for the year ahead. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate hiking shoes or boots. For winter hiking, dressing in layers is best. Hats and gloves are important as it will feel colder with the wind.

Get ready for a whole new way to experience the grand finale of the Holiday Lights Festival! This year, we’re giving you the freedom to enjoy the spectacular firework show and the stunning downtown lighting displays from wherever you like! There is no set parking or designated viewing area, which means you can enjoy the show from virtually any spot in downtown, giving you the chance to discover new perspectives and hidden gems around the city. The fireworks will light up the sky near Heartland of America Park at The RiverFront, and you won’t want to miss a moment! Make it a festive experience by tuning into STAR 104.5 at 7pm, either in your car or on your phone. The fireworks are choreographed to a special musical score, created just for this event by J&M Displays. The soundtrack, broadcast live on STAR 104.5, will enhance every burst of color with the perfect holiday tunes.
