Omaha Public Library's new Central Library at 7205 Dodge Street will open to the public on Sunday, April 19. All are welcome to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m., which will include opening remarks. Doors will open at 12 p.m., but all visitors will be sequestered to the first floor of the building until after the opening ceremony.

After reading The Three Little Pigs, patrons will have one hour to complete this challenge: design and build a sturdy house that can withstand the “Big Bad Wolf’s” huff-and-puff wind test! In honor of Earth Day, stop by to decorate postcards and compose an inspiring message based upon this year’s theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” Creators will have the opportunity to work with movable type and earth-themed printing blocks to letterpress print the front of a postcard onto plantable seed paper. Join OPL and Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project for a virtual interactive session! There will be a brief presentation on the significance of the lotus flower and the Lotus Lantern Festival, a step-by-step craft session where participants create their own traditional Korean lotus lantern, and a short documentary on Korea to close the event. This craft is suitable for ages 13+ and younger participants are encouraged to complete the craft with an adult caregiver. Registration is required.
