The family-friendly festival, led by the team behind Made in Omaha, draws 70+ makers from across the Midwest and thousands of shoppers to foster community connections and celebrate the region’s entrepreneurs and creatives. There will be handcrafted goods, apparel, jewelry, home décor, art, specialty food, live music, food trucks, kids’ crafts and a dedicated Next Gen Makers area, where young entrepreneurs under 18 will be showcasing their business.
On the first Sunday of the month, one film in the series is shown on the big screen at 1PM in the Stanley and Dorothy Truhlsen Lecture Hall. The film is included with regular museum admission and free to members.

Join for our feature presentation of the 1950 Classic: D.O.A. The Terror is a 1963 Gothic supernatural horror film set during the Napoleonic Wars. Join the Omahawks at Hawk Field at Standing Bear Lake (138th and Fort) for their 2026 Labor Day Air Show on Monday, September 7th from 11:45 am to 4:00 pm. Parking and admission is free. There is plenty of seating available. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Proceeds benefit Make-A-Wish Nebraska.

Did you know that the trails at Schramm are a great WEB-site? Join us for a spider night hike. We will use flashlights to search for sparkling webs and reflective eyes as we hunt for amazing arachnids on the Hackberry Trail. Bring your own flashlight or head lamp. This is a free program; State Park Vehicle Entry Permit required. Meet at the park shelter next to Pond A (the first pond as you enter the park).
Each week, Quasar pairs up a local business with a local charitable cause, to present a “Classic” retro title for a “Free-to-the-Public ” event to raise awareness and support. This is a great way for your organization to educate and interact with an eager audience. Solicitation of free-will donations or mission-specific item donations can be part of pre-event, advertising co-op.

As a diverse group of kids gathers to create a community garden, they learn about one another’s abilities, challenges, and strengths. Guided by Sonia, they discover that each of them has a unique way of being in the world, and that those very differences are what make their friendships and their garden bloom. Featuring multicultural songs in the spirit of Schoolhouse Rock and Sesame Street, this colorful musical will help you learn how to “just ask” about what makes each of us extraordinary!
Join an outdoor educator from Schramm Education Center to learn about common birds you can see in your backyard. We'll play and learn about birds through sensory exploration, a story, outdoor bird watching, and a craft. Great for ages 2-6.

Midtown Mix is a laid-back neighborhood gathering where music takes center stage and community comes together. Bring a lawn chair, claim a park bench, or settle in on a nearby restaurant patio and enjoy the show up close. Are you worn out after a busy work week? Do you need a "pick me up" to kickstart your weekend? Grab your friends, coworkers, or significant other and come wind down during our Sunset Hike! This hike will explore the prairie and woodland habitats of Neale Woods. Trails range from easy to moderate difficulty.
Join this summer for some stargazing at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park! Powerful telescopes will be set up at the park’s golf shack for a glimpse of the night sky spectaculars. The event is free to the public, but you will need a valid Nebraska park entry permit for your vehicle. Stargazing will begin at dusk. Remember to bring your camp chairs or blankets! Telescopes will be provided.
The Rockbrook Village Art Fair is a two-day outdoor juried art fair in Omaha, Nebraska on September 12 & 13, 2026. The art fair hosts 120 artists from around the country and attracts over 40,000 visitors from across the Midwest. The fair strives to celebrate creativity through a variety of mediums and activities, delighting both exhibitors and attendees.
Lace up your shoes and join for the La Vista Loop, a fun, family-friendly 1-mile timed run through the heart of our community! Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a first-time participant, or just looking for a great way to stay active, this event offers something for everyone. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Nines Plaza, with awards presented immediately following the final finisher.
In this workshop you will explore the use of various materials, colors and drawing techniques to create a bookmark. Choose a word or phrase that sparks inspiration and ignites imagination as you make your mark on the world through art. All materials included. This workshop is a drop-in style workshop. A morning of butterfly tagging at the Neale Woods prairie, where you will learn how to get involved in national conservation efforts. Naturalist educators will explain the background of the Monarch Watch tagging project and show participants how to safely catch and tag the butterflies. Participants can take a set of tags home after the program to continue protecting these iconic butterflies in their own communities!
Join naturalists at E.T. Mahoney State Park in the James Family Conservatory and Nature Center classroom for a workshop where you will learn to make mini magazines with a nature theme. Zines can be shared to bring joy and spread a positive message about nature. Participants will make zines to keep or share. Materials are provided. This program is best for ages 7 and up, but younger friends are welcome and may join or enjoy other nature center activities. The program is free and does not require registration, but a valid state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
They're turning our store into a science lab! Their friend Dr. Oxygen will be there with incredible hands-on, minds-on activities that are sure to get kids thrilled about science. Everyone's sure to go home with a higher IQ and a heightened sense of wonder!

Using anthocyanin, a special pigment found in red cabbage, you’ll experiment with acids and bases to create a vibrant spectrum of colors. Discover the science behind pH indicators, explore the chemistry of everyday ingredients, and unleash your creativity with nature’s own color-changing palette.
Nebraska Wildlife Rehab will visit the library to talk about the bats native to Nebraska. This presentation includes an overview of basic bat biology, addresses myths and biases about bats, and introduces the a myriad of ways they benefit humans
World O! Water is a fun, annual event for all ages to learn about the important role water plays in our lives and community. Everyone is welcome to this free event including families, youth groups and scout troops, and even your dog! Join in the fun on Saturday, September 12th from 12 noon til 4 pm at Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Enjoy a free hotdog lunch while supplies last.
The Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow highlights Native American dance, music, regalia, oral history and arts. With its rich ties to Native American history, where Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his people were detained pending the 1879 landmark civil rights case granting Native Americans the right of Habeas corpus, the Fort Omaha Campus continues to offer an ideal location for this outdoor community event uniting people of diverse cultures, races, socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. This event is family-friendly and free and open to the public.
Celebrating Native American cultures, the powwow honors the traditional dance, music, artistry, oral history and foods of various tribes across Nebraska and the surrounding region including Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux and Winnebago.
What if a squirrel had to save its forest, a penguin became an explorer, or a stray dog solved a mystery? Using fun prompts and imaginative exercises, students will craft an original story starring an animal hero and learn how to make readers cheer for their furry, feathered, or scaly main character. This is a free event for children ages 8-12. Registration is required
