eCreamery staff will conduct an informative presentation on the “Science of Ice Cream and Dry Ice.” Students will be given a small tour of the facility, a lesson on how ice cream is made, a brief history of ice cream, and the differences in density and composition between gelato, sorbet and ice cream. During the dry ice presentation, they will present the chemistry of dry ice and explain density and dissipation. This event is for kids 12 and under.

In this hands-on biodesign activity, visitors ages 8 and up will explore the fascinating world of biodegradable polymers derived from seaweed. Using alginate, a natural polymer found in large brown algae like kelp, participants mix a custom algae gel and transform it into colorful, squishy strings through a chemical reaction in a calcium bath.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is celebrating Earth Day with an educational event hosted by the Zoo’s Zoo Academy high school students. Party for the Planet will feature a sustainability market, educational presentations, a scavenger hunt, and much more.
Spring is in full swing! Take a guided spring hike and discover all the edible and medicinal plants that are beginning to emerge this time of year. Become familiar with interesting spring folklore and seasonal practices associated with the coming of May. Learn how fairy tales and traditional stories contain a lexicon for being in dialogue with the natural world. We will also discuss how you can incorporate wild foods and medicines into your own garden. Ages 16+ please. $10 per person. Park entry fee included in registration. The Great Midtown Treasure Hunt is a free and open-to-the-public treasure hunt that invites participants to visit neighborhood businesses and landmarks, solve puzzles, games and riddles at each stop, and sleuth for clues that lead them closer to the “Hidden Treasure”. Team up with friends or bring the whole family! This self‑guided hunt is most ideal for teams of 4. All ages are welcome to put your problem-solving skills to the test, all at your own pace.
STEM has never been so sweet! In this hands-on program, kids will explore science and engineering using tasty treats as their tools. From building with snacks to experimenting with edible creations, learning is fun when you can eat your experiments at the end! This is a free event for kids 6-10. Registration is required
