Come watch the Geminids Meteor Shower and stargaze at Neale Woods located at 14323 Edith Marie Ave. in Omaha. Our event will begin with a brief evening hike on dirt-packed trails through the prairie and forest. Then as night falls, we will stargaze together and watch for shooting stars while learning about meteor showers and general astronomy from our seasoned volunteer, Bob Fuchs.
Will Hearn’s The Grand Ol’ Christmas Show is a live, one-of-a-kind musical variety show. The production is set as a retro radio show, "broadcasting” Christmas classics and original sketch comedy antics live on Christmas Eve from the 1225 AM N-O-E-L Radio Studios. The Christmas Bird Count is a bird count that takes place every year around the holiday season! The Christmas Bird Count has been happening since 1900, and this year you can help! Join on a naturalist-guided bird count on the trails or boardwalk near the Nature Center. They will be hiking snow or shine, so make sure you come dressed for the weather! They’ll start with a brief history of the CBC, then hit the trails with a naturalist! Naturalists will lead hikes out to the Boardwalk or surrounding trails, but you can also opt to count birds inside by the bird feeders. They have binoculars available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis, but we encourage you to bring your own! Event is free with daily admission, but pre-registration is required.

Welcome to what will quickly become another Omaha tradition. We are taking over the Heartwood pop up winter rink for a full four hour Chanukah party. To reserve your skating time just email the rink at the posted address. You do not need to be an ice skater to have a great time. There will be Israeli donuts, the latke truck, hot cocoa stations, crafts for all ages and the debut of our ice sculptured Menorah. When the sculptor finishes, we will light it together. Watching a Menorah emerge from a block of ice is a sight you will not forget.

Each month, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. Learn more about the birds that call Schramm home during the winter while participating in the longest running community science project in the country. During the event, participants can choose to help count birds on a hike in the prairie or on a hike down to the Platte River. During the count, we will be recording the number and type of birds we see. After we count, we will join back up in the Schramm Classroom to tally our results and make bird crafts.

This year, we’re giving you the freedom to enjoy the spectacular firework show and the stunning downtown lighting displays from wherever you like! There is no set parking or designated viewing area, which means you can enjoy the show from virtually any spot in downtown, giving you the chance to discover new perspectives and hidden gems around the city. The fireworks will light up the sky near Heartland of America Park at The RiverFront, and you won’t want to miss a moment! Make it a festive experience by tuning into STAR 104.5 at 7pm, either in your car or on your phone. The fireworks are choreographed to a special musical score, created just for this event by J&M Displays. The soundtrack, broadcast live on STAR 104.5, will enhance every burst of color with the perfect holiday tunes.
