Join at the library for WhyArts Kids on the Block, an engaging educational puppet program designed for children in grades K–4. Through lively performances and interactive storytelling, this special event introduces children to what it’s like to live with a disability. Each puppet is operated by a puppeteer who shares the same disability, making the overall message authentic and relevant.

Balloons launch Friday and Saturday Evening 7 PM. Gates open at 5:00 pm to give spectators an early glimpse at the hot air balloons as pilots assemble them for their flights.

Take in the beauty of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower and explore the wonders to be found in the night sky at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock! On Friday, August 14th, the park will stay open until midnight so visitors can view the night sky away from city lights. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, binoculars, and telescopes to view nature's fireworks from the ski hill area and the park's trail system. The Omaha Astronomical Society will be present with telescopes to help you get a close-up look at celestial bodies.

Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.

Dundee Day began in the 1950’s as a sidewalk sale and became an official day of events in 1992. Over the years, the event has included a ‘prettiest baby’ contest, appearances by local artists such as cartoonist Jeffrey Koterba, and the celebrated relocation of the Dundee Dell from Dodge Street to Underwood Avenue.
