Bounce into fun at this hands-on program where participants will make their very own bouncy ball! Using simple materials and a bit of creativity, you’ll learn how these classic toys come together while designing a one-of-a-kind ball to take home. Once your ball is complete, put it to the test with a series of fun bouncing challenges! All supplies provided. This is a free event for kids 6-12. Registration is required

Bring the whole family out and enjoy a warm bowl of chili in the crisp fall air at the Arrowhead Park Chili Fest. This annual fall tradition promises fun for the whole family! Join for games, pumpkin painting, and of course, CHILI! hayrack ride trick or treating will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A $3/vehicle park entry fee or membership is required to enter the park. Free-will donations will be gratefully accepted. This event will be held rain or shine. Please meet at Breezy Lodge.

Film Streams’ free outdoor movie series, Film Streams on the Green, is returning to North Downtown Omaha this summer and fall at Sonny's Builders District. On select Monday evenings July through October, moviegoers are invited to eat, drink and play movie trivia while enjoying a line-up of family favorites, cult classics and big-screen blockbusters. Each screening will begin at 7 pm.

In honor of Fat Bear Week, join in on the Fat Bear Fun at OPL with a special storytime. Enjoy books and songs about bears followed by crafting handmade binoculars to spot the Fat Bear Hall of Champions around the library. This event will be sure to entertain our littlest bear scouts! Parents/caregivers must remain with their child(ren) for the duration of the program and are encouraged to help younger children with the activity.

Elevate your senses with Momentum, our bold menu of brilliant dance! Each season, Momentum brings you a freshly-chosen selection of ballets that showcase the versatility of dance as an art form. Featured this season: A Light in the Dark, Ann Reinking and Melissa Thodos’ inspiring, critically acclaimed true story of Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan; Habaneras, the Music of Cuba, a colorful and sweeping portrait created by modern master Frank Chaves; and Erika Overturff’s new, delightfully dark, and unexpectedly joyous Danse Macabre!
In order for curious minds to bloom, it is essential to plant a love of reading at a young age. Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.
Chris Sayre presents the Songs and Melodies of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales performed on Button Accordion, English Concertina, fretted Dulcimer, Guitar, Mandolin, and Musical Saw. Travel across the Atlantic Ocean for a musical exploration of some of the early roots of our Folk and Country Music, including memorable ballads and humorous ditties. Lunch will be provided, so come hungry!
Never won an award for art? No problem, you can win one for the worst art project at the OPL Teen Bad Art event! Teens ages 13-18 are encouraged to let their creativity run wild as they will have access to a wide variety of supplies to produce a piece of Bad Art. All artistic abilities are welcome, from the Monets and Van Goghs to the “Picass-oh nos!”

Look to the skies at Heartwood’s 2nd Annual Kite Festival. Giant show kites flown by professional kite artists will fill the air above the amphitheater in a breathtaking display of color and motion. Join in the mischief, mayhem, and murder at our Halloween Costume Murder Mystery Party! Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite costume, with prizes awarded for the best-dressed characters. Costumes and props will also be available. Each participant will receive a character packet and objectives to mingle, gather clues, and solve the murder. Guests can also self-guide through the mansion, decorated for our Vintage Halloween Celebration.
Join OPL for a cuddly and creative adoption day at the library in celebration of National Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month in October! Children are invited to listen to a tail-wagging read-aloud about pet adoption, then choose from a variety of different animal plushies to "adopt" and take home. Each animal plushie comes with the option to create a collar and special house along with the completion of an adoption certificate. Kids will have time to name their new friend and imagine fun adventures together. Come for the stories and fun-leave with a snuggly new companion!
