Join this summer for some stargazing at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park! Powerful telescopes will be set up at the park’s golf shack for a glimpse of the night sky spectaculars. The event is free to the public, but you will need a valid Nebraska park entry permit for your vehicle. Stargazing will begin at dusk. Remember to bring your camp chairs or blankets! Telescopes will be provided. Rain Date Saturday, September 13
La Vista’s third annual Fun Run returns in September! Run (or walk) the trails in Central Park during this 1-mile Fun Run. New this year: Register in advance (required for all participants ages 3 and older) and receive an official race bib and packet. The first 100 to register will also receive a free cooling towel. All registered finishers earn a medal, and prizes will be awarded in each age group.
Join at Do Space this September for a drop-in session of tech toys, games, activities and creativity.
Story and music sets will take place all day and evening at the Pavilion in the Activity Center. Attendance is free with park admission and all ages are welcome, but ages 12 and up are recommended for the final performance, “Ghosting”. Performance times: 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 7 p.m. & 8:30 p.m.
Join Master Kim, a 6th degree Black Belt with over 20 years of teaching experience, for an exciting introduction to Taekwondo! Students will get a taste of this respected martial art while learning about discipline, building self-confidence, and embracing a healthy lifestyle. This is a free event for children ages 3-6. All participating children will need to have a release waiver signed by their guardian prior to the program. Registration is required
Ahoy, matey! Are you ready for a treasure hunt? Join OPL for a pirate adventure as we go hunting for pirate treasure at the library! Come make a compass, learn about maps, and then use both to find treasure hidden around the library. This is a free event for children ages 8-12. Registration is required
Join at Two Rivers State Recreation Area for Pinecone Pals on Saturday, Sept. 13. Learn about different ways that seeds are distributed and explore their unique characteristics. Check out some seed samples and be creative as you craft with pinecones. Stop by the pavilion east of the caboose park anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. This all-ages activity is free and open to the public. A valid Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for park entry.
Whether you come from Bag End or beyond the Misty Mountains, adventure awaits! Come anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. to enjoy crafts, activities, and fun for families, adults, and hobbits of all ages inspired by the beloved world of J.R.R. Tolkien. This is a free event for adults and families with children ages 5 and older. All crafts and activities will be available while supplies last.

Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.
Homeschool Hikes is a monthly nature exploration program hosted by the Schramm Education Center geared towards homeschool families. Each month, families can join a naturalist for a guided hike on the Schramm Park State Recreation Area hiking trails. During the program, participants will ask questions, draw, observe, and make discoveries in nature.

The 2025 Omaha Rodeo will include two nights of high-caliber PRCA rodeo action featuring all seven rodeo events including steer wrestling, team roping and bull riding. World champion cowboys will be competing at the rodeo for their official entry into the National Finals Rodeo. Fans can expect non-stop action including rock music, fast-paced competition and family entertainment. Tickets go on sale March 28 at 10 AM.
Almost 35 balloons participate in races over the weekend. In addition there is a parade with a marching band contest and balloonist and many more, also a doll show, arts & crafts fair, flea market, balloon night glow, food booths and more. Come for the day or the weekend.

Everyone’s favorite football skills competition is returning to La Vista this fall. Punt, Pass & Kick is a friendly competition that is welcoming to girls and boys of all skill levels. Participation is fun and simple. Each participant completes three skills. (A football punt, pass and kick). Cumulative scores determine the winner for each division. Winners in each category earn an invitation to the state competition at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. Girls and boys will compete in separate age divisions from 6 to 15 years old. Show up and compete on a first-come, first-served basis. (Pick the time that fits your schedule.) Register upon arrival, complete the three skills and go on your way. Soccer Field #6

Join Bri Wright from Golem Forge and try a new crafting hobby. They’ll be making Dragon Eyes out of clay based on the How to Train Your Dragon books by Cressida Cowell. All craft materials will be provided while supplies last. All you need is your imagination! Fantasy awaits! This is a free event for children 6-12. Registration is required.
They'll examine some of the dangers associated with foraging and how to avoid them. They'll talk about ethical harvest and how to be a good member of the natural community. They'll also take a look at some of the ways these plants can be prepared as foods. And, importantly, they'll discuss some ways of incorporating these plants into your own landscape.
Bring your family to celebrate the changing seasons at our Fall Equinox Celebration! Join for a short, guided hike at Camp Brewster as we search for signs of seasonal changes in the Forest. After the hike, we will have a family-friendly craft to celebrate the equinox. To end our night, we will make a bonfire and have s'mores around the fire. Please remember to check the weather and dress accordingly.
