Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.

Ever wonder what it takes to build your own rocket and launch it high in the sky? This free program is for you and your family! Rocket building will happen from 10:30-11:30AM in the Luminarium. Cimarron (1931): Cimarron is an epic Western drama set during and after the 1889 Oklahoma Land Rush. It follows the ambitious newspaper editor and lawyer Yancey Cravat and his wife, Sabra Cravat, as they build a new life in the frontier town of Osage. While Yancey is repeatedly drawn away by adventure and causes he believes in, Sabra remains behind to raise their family and lead the newspaper, eventually becoming a respected civic leader. Film Streams’ free outdoor movie series, Film Streams on the Green, is returning to North Downtown Omaha this summer and fall at Sonny's Builders District. Learn some simple tips and tricks to make a sidewalk look like it recedes or capture those tricky architectural angles. Be still and reflect for just a moment, train your brain to really see. We’ll use typical Urban Sketching materials (pens, pencils, watercolor) to show you a few easy methods that work when you’re sketching in the park or sitting on a curb….no rulers or math, promise! Have you ever wondered what the Forest looks like after the sun goes down? Now you can find out at our Full Moon Hikes! Come on an evening hike with us and experience the Forest under the light of the moon. This program will include an educational discussion of the nocturnal animals around the Forest and a brief talk about the lore of full moons. The guided hike will proceed after the discussion. After the hike, please join us for a seasonal snack.
