Kiddie Craft is a hands-on, creative program designed for children to explore colors, textures, and simple craft techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Each session features themed crafts that help build fine motor skills, encourage creativity, and foster social interaction. Grown-ups are welcome to craft alongside their kids or relax nearby. It’s the perfect way to spark a lifelong love of art and play! Come create a fluffy paper cloud with raindrops to brighten up a rainy spring day!

Calling all gamers! Have a blast learning how to code while building robotic games to test your code. You will learn about sequencing commands, value and sensor inputs, and loops. This month, kids will create a Robo Frog. This is a free event for kids 6-9. Children under the age of 6 will not be admitted into this program. Registration is required.

In this hands-on biodesign activity, visitors ages 8 and up will explore the fascinating world of biodegradable polymers derived from seaweed. Using alginate, a natural polymer found in large brown algae like kelp, participants mix a custom algae gel and transform it into colorful, squishy strings through a chemical reaction in a calcium bath.

Stop by Metropolitan Community College (Nebraska) South Omaha Campus, Mahoney building, on April 11 from 11am until 3pm, for exciting hands-on activities (with new ones added every year), which encompass a variety of science disciplines including physics, chemistry and biology. This event is free and open to all!

Get ready, Omaha! The Festival of Colors is coming to the heart of downtown for the first time ever at Gene Leahy Mall, and it’s going to be bigger, brighter, and more vibrant than ever before! Calling all crafters! The Papillion Public Library’s annual Fabric Swap will take place on Sunday, April 12 from 1-4pm. Refresh your fabric stash while reducing textile waste! Have clean fabric to donate? Drop it off at the Papillion Public Library’s front desk from March 22-April 10. No small scraps please.

Sushi with a twist! Come hang out and make your own sushi using Rice Krispie treats and candy. Learn about different types of sushi, test your skills with some chopstick games, and enjoy a fun (and tasty) challenge. Registration is required.

Curiosity Crew is a one-hour, hands-on STEM program for children ages 2–11 that blends play, exploration, and early learning! Stop by to learn about a topic and complete an activity!

In order for curious minds to bloom, it is essential to plant a love of reading at a young age. Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.

Get to know the new OPL Do Space in our Skills Class! Each session will focus on learning a new skill, machine, or software. This session will focus on the introductory 3D modeling skills. Participants will be able to get to know the software Tinkercad and start their 3D printing journey!  Register now for this 2-hour, hands-on program.

Stories in Motion with Circle Theatre is returning to Omaha Public Library storytimes! Families are invited to explore the sights and sounds of India through "The Festival of Colors" by New York Times bestselling authors Kabir Sehgal & Surishtha Sehgal.

Celebrate reading with a party all about bookmarks! Kids can decorate a variety of bookmarks using fun supplies and their own creativity. From colorful designs to imaginative patterns, everyone will leave with a collection of unique bookmarks to enjoy with their favorite books. All supplies are included while supplies last. This is a free event for kids ages 6-10, and registration is required.

Count Olaf is scheming again! He’s locked the key to the Baudelaire’s fortune in a box, and the three Baudelaire children need your help to get it back before Count Olaf can secure the fortune for good. Come solve clues and puzzles themed around the Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. Can you help Violet, Klaus, and Sunny in time? This is a free event for children ages 8-12. Registration is required.

Work on your fiber art projects while enjoying the company of others. Crocheting, knitting, cross stitching, and other fiber art mediums welcomed. Third Friday of each month, 5:30 to 7:30 in the Main Library's Meeting Room.

Hop on over for a festive evening of Bunny Hop Bingo this April! Bring the whole family for a spring-filled celebration featuring fun bingo rounds, sweet treats, and egg-cellent prizes. Omaha Public Library's new Central Library at 7205 Dodge Street will open to the public on Sunday, April 19. All are welcome to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m., which will include opening remarks. Doors will open at 12 p.m., but all visitors will be sequestered to the first floor of the building until after the opening ceremony.

Join OPL and Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project for a virtual interactive session! There will be a brief presentation on the significance of the lotus flower and the Lotus Lantern Festival, a step-by-step craft session where participants create their own traditional Korean lotus lantern, and a short documentary on Korea to close the event. This craft is suitable for ages 13+ and younger participants are encouraged to complete the craft with an adult caregiver. Registration is required.
