Nancy Gillis from Humanities Nebraska will speak on the origins, history and current state of the five tribes of Nebraska: Omaha, Ponca, Pawnee, Santee, and Winnebago. Of Cherokee/Choctaw descent, Ms. Gillis was the Executive Director of the John Neihardt State Historic Site and its Institute for Vision and Learning for 19 years, retiring in 2019.

Balloons launch Friday and Saturday Evening 7 PM. Gates open at 5:00 pm to give spectators an early glimpse at the hot air balloons as pilots assemble them for their flights.

On Friday, August 14th, the park will stay open until midnight so visitors can view the night sky away from city lights. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, binoculars, and telescopes to view nature's fireworks from the ski hill area and the park's trail system. The Omaha Astronomical Society will be present with telescopes to help you get a close-up look at celestial bodies.
