World O! Water is a fun, annual event for all ages to learn about the important role water plays in our lives and community. Everyone is welcome to this free event including families, youth groups and scout troops, and even your dog! Join in the fun on Saturday, September 12th from 12 noon til 4 pm at Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Enjoy a free hotdog lunch while supplies last.
The Fort Omaha Intertribal Powwow highlights Native American dance, music, regalia, oral history and arts. With its rich ties to Native American history, where Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his people were detained pending the 1879 landmark civil rights case granting Native Americans the right of Habeas corpus, the Fort Omaha Campus continues to offer an ideal location for this outdoor community event uniting people of diverse cultures, races, socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. This event is family-friendly and free and open to the public.
Celebrating Native American cultures, the powwow honors the traditional dance, music, artistry, oral history and foods of various tribes across Nebraska and the surrounding region including Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux and Winnebago.

July Theme: Experiments! Get ready to get a little messy! This summer we’re keeping our STEM skills sharp and our hypotheses ready with kid’s experiments. Experiments will use simple household items, may vary depending on age range, and come with all necessary safety equipment. If weather allows, a portion of the program will take place outside.

Ozobots are fun, miniature robots with color sensors that introduce children to basic computer programming. Children create program commands via lines and color codes for the tiny robots to complete. This class is taught by the 4-H School Enrichment program from Nebraska 4-H. Limited class size. Registration required. Call the library to register.
Old-fashioned summer fun! The Council Bluffs Fire Department hosts hydrant parties on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. throughout the summer at various locations.

Join on the second and fourth Fridays of June and July for free outdoor movies on the big screen. Yard games and movie-themed activities begin at 7:30 p.m. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are encouraged. Each movie will have a food truck on site serving treats for purchase. Take flight on a dragon-sized adventure with a showing of How to Train Your Dragon (2025). How much do you really know about them and their role in nature? During this exciting event, we will learn about the importance of moths in our ecosystem, set up moth survey sites, and collect data for the National Moth Week database. If you’re interested in learning more about the nocturnal critters in the world around us and participating in hands-on research, we encourage you to join in the fun!
