Cookie Mile Run
Join for the second annual Cookie Mile presented by Kookaburra Cookies, Fleet Feet, and Nike! The course features a fast, flat one-mile loop through the iconic Aksarben Village in Omaha, Nebraska. Starting from Stinson Park, runners circle the village before finishing on the corner of 67th Street and Mercy Road. All runners will be greeted at the finish line with a finisher medal, a finisher t-shirt, and a Kookaburra cookie.

Celebrate the 250th Independence Day at Heartwood Beach Club, our biggest summer bash. The park transforms into a beach-themed playground featuring giant sand sculptures, sand sculpting lessons, giant water slides in the Amphitheater, games and festive food. Make your mark on our community mural and enjoy a rocking concert at sunset before settling in for one of the best spots to watch nearby fireworks. Forever Young Film Series: Turning Red
Film Streams Dundee Theater 4952 Dodge Street, Omaha, NEAcademy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short Bao) took her experiences of growing up a Chinese Canadian with immigrant parents and turned it into a fun, stylized film that explores often untouched territory for animated films. With the film, she hoped that “kids who watch it, parents too, feel empowered to take up space, to be big and loud, to let their inner red pandas out and to be proud of all the things that make them different.”

Nebraska Balloon & Wine Festival 2026
Balloons launch Friday and Saturday Evening 7 PM. Gates open at 5:00 pm to give spectators an early glimpse at the hot air balloons as pilots assemble them for their flights.
Perseids Night Sky Event
Take in the beauty of the annual Perseid Meteor Shower and explore the wonders to be found in the night sky at Crescent Hill at Hitchcock! On Friday, August 14th, the park will stay open until midnight so visitors can view the night sky away from city lights. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, binoculars, and telescopes to view nature's fireworks from the ski hill area and the park's trail system. The Omaha Astronomical Society will be present with telescopes to help you get a close-up look at celestial bodies.

Join OPL at “Once Upon a Time at the Castle,” a storytime and wildlife adventure in the enchanted gardens. Storytime will feature stories, creative movement, music and more. In order for curious minds to bloom, it is essential to plant a love of reading at a young age. Join OPL at Lauritzen Gardens for stories that celebrate gardens, plants, insects and more, and discover the joys of nature, movement, music, and literature. Storytime is geared for preschoolers, but all ages are welcome. Lauritzen Gardens will offer free admission to families who attend this storytime.

Dundee Day 2026
Parade Time TBD
Dundee Day began in the 1950’s as a sidewalk sale and became an official day of events in 1992. Over the years, the event has included a ‘prettiest baby’ contest, appearances by local artists such as cartoonist Jeffrey Koterba, and the celebrated relocation of the Dundee Dell from Dodge Street to Underwood Avenue. Today, presented by Dundee Bank and Dundee Pediatrics, this family-friendly street festival celebrates and highlights the Dundee neighborhood with a parade, 5k run, art and craft vendors, book sale, pancake breakfast, food trucks, live music, live art drawing, and beer garden.
