A hilarious group of Big Canvas improvisers brings short-form improv for the whole family to the Blackstone district every 4th Friday. Each show is a new adventure you don’t want to miss!
Join on the second and fourth Fridays of June and July for free outdoor movies on the big screen. Yard games and movie-themed activities begin at 7:30 p.m. Blankets, chairs, and picnics are encouraged. Each movie will have a food truck on site serving treats for purchase. Celebrate America 250 with a screening of National Treasure (2004), an inflatable bounce house, treasure hunt and sparklers. Movie is PG.

Freedom Night is a full evening of family fun, festive games, and hands-on farm experiences. The night ends with a spectacular fireworks show presented by Bellino Fireworks.
Join for the second annual Cookie Mile presented by Kookaburra Cookies, Fleet Feet, and Nike! The course features a fast, flat one-mile loop through the iconic Aksarben Village in Omaha, Nebraska. Starting from Stinson Park, runners circle the village before finishing on the corner of 67th Street and Mercy Road. All runners will be greeted at the finish line with a finisher medal, a finisher t-shirt, and a Kookaburra cookie.

Each date will have a special craft or activity and feature related photos from our Photo Archive for a bit of a history lesson while you celebrate. On Saturday, June 27, celebrate our nation's independence and the traditions behind the July 4th holiday.
Saturday mornings belong to the kids. Heartwood Kids Club is a free weekly program filled with hands-on fun designed especially for children ages 4–8. Activities can include crafts, demonstrations, creative projects or interactive experiences each week brings a new surprise. Kids must be accompanied by an adult, so the whole family can enjoy a playful start to the weekend together. Happening every Saturday morning June 13th through September.
Participants will have the opportunity to create single-sheets booklets (8-page zines) taking inspiration from Nebraska wildlife, nature journaling—or coming up with their own themes. During this hands-on creative session makers will fold, cut, collage and draw. Content and writing prompts, recycled comics, ephemera, and printing stamps will be available. All puns welcome! Beat the heat at our summer Hydrant Parties! La Vista Recreation is partnering with the Papillion Fire Department to offer Hydrant Parties at various locations across the city. Kids can cool off, run wild, enjoy popsicles, and make a splash as the hydrant sprays water high into the air for nonstop summer fun.
Compete against other teams to complete the same puzzle in the fastest amount of time. All teams will be provided with a puzzle and will have two hours to finish the challenge. The first team to complete the puzzle wins! Space is limited, and registration is required.

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with the Omaha Public Library! This year they’re celebrating the ways America has changed over the last 250 years through a year-long lecture series. What’s happening in the mind of a musician as they improvise their way through a classic tune, with one foot in tradition and one in the wild unknown? How can science inform creative practices?

Academy Award® winner Domee Shi (Pixar short Bao) took her experiences of growing up a Chinese Canadian with immigrant parents and turned it into a fun, stylized film that explores often untouched territory for animated films. With the film, she hoped that “kids who watch it, parents too, feel empowered to take up space, to be big and loud, to let their inner red pandas out and to be proud of all the things that make them different.”

July Theme: Experiments! Get ready to get a little messy! This summer we’re keeping our STEM skills sharp and our hypotheses ready with kid’s experiments. Experiments will use simple household items, may vary depending on age range, and come with all necessary safety equipment. If weather allows, a portion of the program will take place outside.
