The Very Hungry Caterpillar will visit for a special storytime! Children of all ages are welcome. Experience stories, creative movement, music and more. Yōkai, supernatural beings and phenomena from Japanese folklore and popular culture, are at once sinister and friendly, frightening and silly, and completely captivating to the imagination. Join Omaha Public Library and a representative from the Japanese Outreach Initiative for a brief exploration of the history of Yōkai and learn how to craft your own in various Japanese art styles. This is a free event for adults 19+.
Roll on into OPL and roll up some candy sushi! We’ll explore the different types of sushi, make our own out of candy and rice krispie treats, and practice our chopstick skills in this free, interactive program for children ages 8-12. Registration is required

Join OPL as we celebrate children around the world for DIA. We’ll take a look at the children and the culture of Japan with kamishibai, Japanese paper theater. This traditional method of Japanese storytelling combines beautiful illustrations with dramatic narration. A representative of the Japan Outreach Initiative will present kamishibai, answer questions, and tell us a little about children in Japan.
Spring is here, let’s get gardening! Join Omaha Public Library for an interactive workshop with No More Empty Pots to learn about sustainable food production and build skills that support sustainable food-growing and production practices, environmental consciousness, and improved food self-sufficiency. This is a free event for teens aged 13-18. Registration is encouraged.
A small string or wind ensemble from the Omaha Symphony will perform music chosen to reflect the musicians’ decision to pursue music and/or their journey to Omaha. Each musician will share their personal story. This is a free event for all ages.

Join OPL for a fun and loose storytelling event for adults! Adventures happen all the time and we want to hear about them! Do you have a favorite adventure you've ever had, or an adventure that didn't go quite the way you thought it would? Prepare a 5-8 minute story about your experience and come share with the crowd. All participants will be awarded a superlative award!
