Celebrate reading with a party all about bookmarks! Kids can decorate a variety of bookmarks using fun supplies and their own creativity. From colorful designs to imaginative patterns, everyone will leave with a collection of unique bookmarks to enjoy with their favorite books. All supplies are included while supplies last. This is a free event for kids ages 6-10, and registration is required.

Get to know the new OPL Do Space in our Skills Class! Each session will focus on learning a new skill, machine, or software. This session will focus on the introductory 3D modeling skills. Using a handheld blacklight, educators from Nebraska Wildlife Rehab will help uncover the science of biofluorescence with a unique presentation and hands-on glowing experiments! This is a free event for Teens 13+. Registration is not required.

In this creative workshop, participants will use a instant camera to take pictures (and/or bring their own pictures!) and turn them into colorful scrapbook pages using paper, stickers, letters, and more. It’s the perfect mix of storytelling and hands-on art—no writing or crafting experience needed!

Participants will take part in a dissection of real owl pellets led by experts from NE Wildlife Rehab to uncover what these mysterious birds eat. Tea 101 is an interactive session led by staff from The Tea Smith. It is ideal for people who are new to tea or want to learn more about the history, legend, tastes and benefits of the world's most popular prepared beverage. Limited samples of tea will be provided. This is a free event for Adults 19+. Registration is required.

Kids will enjoy creepy crafts, ghoulish games, and interactive stations that bring the eerie excitement of the series to life. Perfect for brave readers and thrill-seekers alike! This is a free event for children ages 8-12.

Grab your team and get ready for a puzzle showdown! Everyone gets the same puzzle, and the race is on to see who can finish first. You’ll have two hours to put the pieces together and solve a small puzzle-related mystery. Only one team will take the crown as Puzzle Champions! Space is limited, and registration is required. Please only register once for each team. Teams are required to have a minimum of 2 members and a max of 5. One member of the team must be 19+.

Join us as we travel around the globe exploring music and dance! This session will feature the story "Ten Oni Drummers" by Matthew Gollub, a delightful tale about silly ogres from Japan. We'll sing, dance, drum, and more! After storytime, children will be able to explore the props and instruments featured with representatives from Circle Theatre.

Join OPL for a musical storytime with guests from the Omaha Conservatory of Music. This storytime will include a special musical story, songs with movement, and an instrument petting zoo, where participants can try out a violin, cello, glockenspiel, stirring xylophone, lollipop drum, and a shaker instrument.

Join children’s book illustrator, Chloe Burgett, as she shares what it's like drawing pictures for children's books. Chloe will present about her job, read her book, answer questions, and lead a draw-along activity. This is a free event event for all ages. Registration is required

Bring your favorite stuffed animal friend to a pajama storytime! After storytime, your stuffie friend will stay at the library for a sleepover with the librarians, where we’ll take pictures of them doing all sorts of fun activities. This program is for kids ages 0-7, but older siblings are welcome too.

Oh no! We're stuck in the past! Or is this the future? Work together to find hidden relics from each era and fix the T.I.M.E machine before that hungry dinosaur eats you for dinner. Do you have what it takes? Registration is required 

Join Omaha Street Percussion for a workshop designed to give young patrons an opportunity to drum, while at the same time learn the importance of teamwork. Participants will be challenged to multi-task by using skills such as counting, listening, and watching for instruction and guidance in order to accomplish the ultimate goal, which is to perform as a whole group! Registration is required

Join OPL for a special storytime featuring the book Harry and Hot Lava by Chris Robertson! At the conclusion of storytime, children will be timed as they jump and hop their way through an obstacle course using various surfaces. Go as fast as you can, but don’t fall in because…the Floor is Lava! This is a free event for children 4+.

Compete against other teams to complete the same puzzle in the fastest amount of time. All teams will be provided with a puzzle and will have two hours to finish the challenge. The first team to complete the puzzle wins!

How much do you know about the animal kingdom? Can you tell the difference between a monkey and an ape? What farm animal is more dangerous than sharks? Join OPL and educators from Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium for this gameshow-style program.

Roll on into OPL and roll up some candy sushi! We’ll explore the different types of sushi, make our own out of candy and rice krispie treats, and practice our chopstick skills in this free, interactive program for children ages 8-12. Registration is required

Join OPL as we celebrate children around the world for DIA. We’ll take a look at the children and the culture of Japan with kamishibai, Japanese paper theater. This traditional method of Japanese storytelling combines beautiful illustrations with dramatic narration. A representative of the Japan Outreach Initiative will present kamishibai, answer questions, and tell us a little about children in Japan.

A small string or wind ensemble from the Omaha Symphony will perform music chosen to reflect the musicians’ decision to pursue music and/or their journey to Omaha. Each musician will share their personal story. This is a free event for all ages.

B – I – N – G – O! How well do you know classic and popular storybook characters? Come play bingo with others at OPL, test your knowledge of storybook characters, and maybe win a book to take home! Come as a family or with friends and enjoy

Today there will be a special guests from Keep Omaha Beautiful who will read Ruby’s Birds by Mya Thompson. Just as Ruby learns to identify the birds in her neighborhood, we will also learn to observe specific features in order to identify common backyard Nebraska birds. They will make a tool to help us on our birdwatching adventures and conclude with a bird watching expedition outside.
