Sunset Hikes
- This hike will explore the gravel and dirt trails near the Nature Center then head to the third loop of the Boardwalk to watch the sunset over the Missouri River.
- Cost: $10 for Members, $18 for Non-Members

Dear T-Rex and other area dinosaurs, you are cordially invited to a tea party at Omaha Public Library, based on the picture book “Tea Rex” by Molly Idle! Refreshments will be served and tea will be hosted by a Tea-Rex wrangler. Bring your favorite stuffed or plastic dinosaur friends to enjoy the party! This is a free event for children ages 5-9. Tea party snacks, beverages, and dinosaur tails to wear during the program will be provided.
Peruse the night sky with a seasoned volunteer from the Omaha Astronomical Society. Blanket and camp chairs recommended.
Join the National Park Service for B.A.R.K Ranger at the 8th Street Pavilion in Gene Leahy Mall near the Dog Park from 2PM - 4PM.
Want to have your pup become a B.A.R.K. ranger? learn about our original B.A.R.K. Ranger: Seaman, complete a few activities, & understand the B.A.R.K. Ranger code! park Rangers will then help you take the B.A.R.K. Ranger pledge & sign your official certificate!
As you enjoy the sights & sounds along the trail you will spot activities posted along your route that are designed to help learners ages 3 to 5 experience nature in a new way. While it is designed for young learners, any age can learn something new and have fun, too!
Santa’s reindeer are lost inside the Tree Adventure, and we need your help to find them! Join with family and friends in a fun-for-all-ages scavenger hunt to discover where the reindeer are hiding along the Tree House Trail. Then use our special mailbox to send a letter to Santa to let him know where to find his reindeer in time for his Christmas ride!
Activity is available during regular hours November 29 through December 22 and is included with your Tree Adventure admission. Purchase Tree Adventure tickets in advance.
How is the Forest different after the sun goes down? How does the full moon affect nocturnal animals? Come learn this and more at our guided Full Moon Hike! This program will include an educational discussion of the nocturnal animals around the Forest and a brief talk into the lore of full moons. The guided hike will proceed after the discussion. Please join after the hike for a seasonal snack.
Join for a cozy evening of sweet treats and beautiful views at S’mores and Sunsets! Gather around the fire at the Central Park Shelter, where we’ll be making delicious s’mores while enjoying the breathtaking sunset. This family-friendly event is open to all ages, and no registration is required. Just bring your appetite for marshmallows and a love for the great outdoors! We look forward to seeing you there for a fun and relaxing evening.
Bring out the whole crew to search for caches hidden in the park using GPS coordinates! Instruction is provided!
Enjoy the fun for $10/group of up to 6 people! Great activity for all ages! Please bring at least one smartphone per group! Register by April 9th.
Grab your family and friends for a fun afternoon of canoeing on the lake! Includes instruction and all equipment for a safe and fun canoeing adventure! Participants must be at least 6 years and older and at least one adult is required for each canoe. $25/canoe (max 4 people). Register for a 1 hour time slot: 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm
Did you know that the trails at Schramm are a great WEB-site? Join us for a spider night hike. We will use flashlights to search for sparkling webs and reflective eyes as we hunt for amazing arachnids on the Hackberry Trail. Bring your own flashlight or head lamp. This is a free program; State Park Vehicle Entry Permit required. Meet at the park shelter next to Pond A (the first pond as you enter the park).
Want an opportunity to get your family outdoors over your winter break? Would you like to contribute to science? Join their Christmas Bird Count for Kids event at Schramm Education Center! Learn more about the birds that call Schramm home during the winter while participating in the longest running community science project in the country. During the event, participants can choose to help count birds on a hike in the prairie or on a hike down to the Platte River. During the count, we will be recording the number and type of birds we see. After we count, we will join back up in the Schramm Classroom to tally our results and make bird crafts.
It's that time of year again! Bring the family out for our annual Maple Tree Tap at Botna Bend Park and learn the basics of syrup making—from tapping the trees to bottling the final product. You'll even get to explore the syrup shack at Botna Bend and learn how we make this sweet, sticky treat for our annual Pancake Feed every fall. Local maple syrup samples will also be available as supplies last.
