THE WIZARD OF OZ opens at the Orpheum Theater Dec. 8!
The North American tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ will play at the Orpheum Theater Tuesday, December 8, through Sunday, December 13, as part of the Omaha Performing Arts Broadway Series.
This live show is the closest stage production to the movie ever, and will include all of the iconic songs and characters, plus a few surprises and a couple new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber!
Family Classic
Growing up, I watched The Wizard of Oz whenever it was on TV. Judy Garland was amazing portraying the little girl who wanted to explore the world around her with her little dog, Toto.
So many of the songs from the movie are favorites, and I can still sing along with them and remember their particular scenes from the movie. In the beautiful scene of Munchkinland, favorites include Come Out, Come Out Wherever You Are and We Welcome You to Munchkinland (and, of course, the Lollipop Guild!).
I would always try to skip along with Dorothy and Toto with Follow the Yellow Brick Road and We’re Off to See the Wizard. Each particular scene with the Scarecrow dancing around, the Tin Man needing oil, and the Lion trying to roar are fun to watch and sing along with as they each joined Dorothy on her journey to see the wizard. The classic Somewhere Over the Rainbow reminds us of our childhood and that There is No Place Like Home.
And in one of the final scenes of the movie, it was always fun to see OMAHA across the wizard’s hot air balloon!
Heroes Night
Men and women of the armed forces and their families will be celebrated at the Heroes’ Night performance on Wednesday, December 9, at 7:30 p.m. A select group of local Gold Star Families and Blue Star Families will receive complimentary tickets to the Heroes’ Night performance, and a discount has been extended to all members of the military for the performance.
Gold Star Families are families who have lost a service member in the line of duty. Blue Star Families is the nation’s largest chapter-based military family support organization which strengthens military families and our nation by connecting communities and fostering leadership. Its members are military families from all branches of the armed services including National Guard and Reserve.
