Looking for something different to do on a date night or fun night out with friends? A couple weeks ago, I attended a bridal shower where we were each asked to write down a fun date night idea. My first thought – Try Vino van Gogh where you can combine eating at a local restaurant with a painting class!
Recently, I was given the opportunity to try a Vino van Gogh class with my husband and really did not know what to expect. I enjoy painting, but definitely do not feel confident in painting or creating a beautiful work of art.
We chose Fernando’s in Blair with Lisa and Tim of The Walking Tourists because we love Mexican food, and the painting we were going to create was beautiful.
The Original Painting
This is the painting we were going to re-create. I was very doubtful that mine would look anything close to the original, but I loved the colors and was excited to try.
A Blank Canvas
When we walked in the room, Kipp, our artist, had everything prepared and ready to go. All of our paint, paint brushes, water cups, towels, aprons, and other supplies were laid out ready for us to begin.
It was fun to see the row of blank canvases waiting to be given life. Each of us looked at the original painting and imagined what our our own painting would look like.
As we began, it was interesting to see how different each of our paintings were. Some had a darker sky, a greener lake, a brighter sun, and a wide variety of trees. We each brought our own unique perspective to our paintings.
Kipp, our artist instructor, was wonderful. He detailed every step and gave us confidence in adding texture and making the painting our own. Kipp demonstrated patience as he showed how to make the trees – the most complicated part of the painting – and encouraged us to go with our instincts as we painted.
The Beginning, Middle, and End
It was amazing to see the painting come together. When you are sitting there right in front of it, even the smallest detail can become frustrating, and not look just the way you want it. But when you step back away from the painting, it all came together and you do not even notice what was ‘just not right’ before.
Final Masterpieces
Our final masterpieces. It was hard to believe that just a little over an hour and a half before we had started with a blank canvas. Each painting beautiful, each unique, and each created with our own perspective.
Our night painting with Vino van Gogh was very fun and brought out our creative side. It allowed us to relax as we focused on the painting in front of us and the people around us. If you are looking for a unique night out, I highly recommend trying Vino van Gogh.
